Oil Pan Gasket changing

How much of a headache is this job going to be? Should I devote a weekend to this? Never done one before on any vehicle yet, but the undercarage is getting wetter and wetter with the oil leak and I cant ignor it anymore.

Are you sure its coming from the pan? I would try tightening all the bolts first. This has helped many people from changing the gasket. You'd be surprised how "loose" they feel.

Dealer told me the motor had to be slightly lifted in order to drop the pan. I need to have this done myself before my warranty runs out because if thats the case, I sure don't want any part of changing it out myself.

Ok, I tried tightening the bolts, some were able to be turned but not by much (quarter turn at most). I will clean it off and see what happens, but I still think the gasket is bad. All Data says its a 7.3 hour job. Blech, not looking forward to that. Thankfully I can use my girls Dads shop to work on it.

Next time I have to pull my pan I will pay you the two hours. How about $60 an hour? Even $100 an hour.

Its 4x4 and flat rate on it is 7.3 hours. If you have the experiance you can beat flat rate by quite a bit, but if you dont know the short cuts and have never done it before you should expect to just make flat rate. Two hours is increadable. I agree with Haulin in dixie, I would pay you to pull the pan at 60 an hour for that!

Either way, I am not loosing enough oil to hurt the engine, just my pride as it drips over night. I can wait and clean it up with some break clean one morning drive it for a few hours and come back and look to see where its coming from. Probably this weekend.

Whats so hard??
1remove valve cvr
2- hook up eng hoist
3- lift truck up some (so axle is not carring all the weight, gives more space)
3-loose eng mts and lift
4- remove pan bolts and shabam!
4-reverse the order and you done..........................not so hard

Hmmmmmm, mine is a bit harder, but even so, there are a few other things also. Like the fan or shroud, drain coolant, lower radiator hose, air cooler boots to disconnect, and if you don't have a cherry picker engine hoist that will hold 1000 plus pounds and concrete to put it on, remove the hood.

On mine you have a couple of hours getting the power steering drained, res hose disconnected, impossible to get at pump bolts to remove, and pump to remove to get clearance to the mount. On mine you will never get the mounts back in without releasing the rear mount. Oh well, non stock mods are a pain sometimes.

Flat rate works in a shop with all the equipment figured in the flat rate, but in the driveway it is generally a lot longer.

I have worked in flat rate shops, not on ctd, but the rate seems more than fair with the enviroment and equipment, but I and most like me will never approach flat rate times.
