oil leak

Hi, I have a 99 dodge diesel, I have an oil leak somewere by the power steering pump. It's leaking engine oil. Does anybody know what normally leaks on this. Is it the oil seal on the shaft the drives the steering pump or just a gasket bad. I just would like to know before i go rippen it apart so i have everything i need.

thanks
dan

Re:oil leak

I also have a bad leak at the pump. From what I understand from threads, the seal on the vacumme pump shaft and the power steering pump goes bad. Do a search there are several threads on this site about it.

Re:oil leak

Yours might not have a bottle, on my 02 it's on the left front end of the engine. Black plastic bottle with four holes in it near the top. So when it gets to full of rain water and blow by oil and comes out of the holes, the fan will blow it all over the left side of your engine. Very bad design I think. The engineers must have been drinking the day they thought of putting the bottle where it is. Their sure is room for improvement in that area. I taped my bottom two side holes shut so the fan would not pick up the blow by film so much.

Re:oil leak

my blow-by bottle pukes all over the front axle and bottom of engine. been told that how bad it is can depend on the type of oil used.

How do you get the search engine to go back past September? Tried every key word I can think of and it always ends around September.

I hope just the seal takes care of your oil leak. On mine, I had to replace the O-ring also to cure the leak. Sorry I didn't get to reply sooner to tell you about the O-ring. It's definately a "do it as long as you are in there item". Good Luck.
