I have posted this before, however I wanted to know if others are seeing the same thing. I am very service mined and while changing out filters this last time I noticed(again) oil on the upper portion of my intake under where the fuel lines enter the head. This has been going on since day one.... I always wipe it off, it's never alot or is puddling. The lines are TIGHT. It's not fuel. My question is that is seems like it does it more in the colder weather. During the summer after I clean it it will stay clean for about 5000 miles. Once the weather cools down about 1000 miles. Anyone seeing the same thing?

No leaks on mine, had the top end tore apart installing injectors on mine the other day.

It sounds like you have a bad seal on your valve cover. You can remove the plastic Cummins cover, four 10mm bolts. There will be 6 10mm bolts that hold the valve cover on, and 2 plastic tubes going into the valve cover, make sure they are not your problem. I would pull the 2 tubes out, they just slip in, and remove the valve cover and inspect the O-ring type gasket. If it looks good, wipe it down and run a little oil around it for a good seal. Put it back on and torque to 22 ftlbs. That should cure your problem. Unless the rocker box is somehow warped, but I can't see that happening, but it is possible. Check it with a straight edge to be sure. But, it sounds like the valve cover may just be loose, or O-ring contaminated, and has lost its seal.

Not neccesarily.

You might have one loose bolt (or one that is to tight) or the seal may be damaged in that one spot. The cold is contracting the gasket, allowing the oil to leak in that one spot, till the engine gets hot enough to create a seal. It is probably just a loose bolt. I would still remove cover and inspect and clean.

It should only take about an hour to do the whole thing. You will find that a short ladder or tall foot stool makes it easier to get to the valve cover bolts at the rear, near the firewall. There is really not much that can go wrong, pretty simple job. Or, I would take it to the dealer and let them fix it, you still are under warranty aren't you? Might want to take the pressure box off if you go in.

Just sounds like a snafu from the factory. I would also check for any warpage of the valve cover and head with a straight edge. Though i seriously doubt there is any warpage, I'll put my money on an improperly torqued bolt or a pinched/damaged seal.

Sound like the rocker lever housing is leaking on your engine , and not the valve cover, that would be covered by your warranty. It not a bad job , you do have to remove the injector wiring off the injectors and on the outside that you can see, and those bolts to the housing are torqued to 212 in. lb.

I removed the valve cover and torqued the rocker cover alittle more. Everything is there and looked o.k.
