Guys The oil gauge on the dash is doing the same old same old as what everyone else is..
Start up its at the top, hot its at the lower, never that much up and down..

I know its like a light for say...

I want to put an oil gauge on the oil filter port and remember the ones that you just screw into the port and maybe a 1/5" gauge, hard mounted..
Anyone still making them? What type you use and what port you use?

I don't want one in the cab, just under to hood that if the oil dash light guage goes and craps I can still tell what its doing.

Short of a hard mount what to use?
12v wired to the fender?
real oil line to gauge only, no power?
I want it easy plain and fast.

Pretty much any mechanical gauge will work. I wouldn't mount it directly on the engine, but on the fender/firewall/inside the cab. Obviously you'll need some hose or line to do that.
If you tap into the top of the oil filter housing, you'll need
1) 1/8" npt to 1/8" compression fitting,
2) enough 1/8" line to run to wherever. You can find this stuff an any heavy truck shop they use it for air line, make sure it's ok for oil and oil temps.
3) 1/8" compression fitting to whatever the inlet size is on the gauge you're using. You may find a 1/8" gauge inlet, but more likely to find 1/4". In this case, just grab a 1/4" x 1/8" bushing and you're off the the races.

By definition, mechanical gauges don't need power. They usually employ a bourdon tube, which is purely mechanical. If you want a lit one, Autometer etc is fine. If you don't, you can find cheap gauges at the hardware store.
