Oil filter help

Has any one found a remote filter mount for the engine oil filter? I'm tired of fighting with the poor location of the filter. I'm just looking for a remote mount kit not the amsoil bypass type of system. Any help would help save my sanity the next time I change the oil in this dang thing.

It must be a 04.5 thing because the 03 people say there is no problem unless your wearing boxing gloves.
I can't get to mine from the bottom without unhooking the A/C compressor and you need a socket type oil filter wrench.

Ok you guys must be crazy and lazy
AMSOIL make a remote filter mount #BMK-14 but you still have to get the correct filter to mount on it which is SDF-26.
I don't see while everyone is disconnecting other things to change the oil filter. All you need to do is either place a bag around the filter prior to removing it, or some have said to use a 1ltr bottle with the bottom cut off then puch a hole in th bottom of the filter thru the bottle opening and drain it then pull it off. If yo are having problems getting it off then you must not be using the proper oil filter wrench, the one that attached to the bottem and squeezes on it only when turning in the opening direction.
Better yet why even change the oil, just install a Bypass system and take samples and only change the filter or bypass filter

Is someone saying that the location is different in the 04.5's? If you don't mind laying on the ground, its no biggie to get to. A little tight, but there's nothing wrong with being a little tight.

If needed I just use my old trusty oil filter wrench; no bags, no hole punching, no nothing - and best of all - no mess.

If its that hard to change the oiil, take it to the shop and enjoy a cup of coffee while a knucklehead changes it for you.

The problem with mine is there is a hole just big enough to drop the filter STRAIGHT down, however the wiring harness to the a/c compressor is taught and cuts straight through that opening for the oil filter.
I may try to lengthen the harness to give it some slack, then I can simply move the harness out of the way when changing the filter instead of disconnecting it.

You all don't get it yet, do you? The filter is in a **** poor location to begin with. I do lay under the truck, I do have the proper tools to change the filter out. No, I do not have the room to put a bag or any thing else around the filter. And why do that? If there was room to get any where near the filter, I'd just poke a hole in the bottom of the filter and drain the oil out of it before removing the filter. The first time I tried doing that I hit everything under the truck with the hammer BUT the spike I was using as a hole poker. Maybe it's the guys that used to have to remove the filter from the top of the engine that think it's a snap to remove it from the bottom now.

Supergewl, how about sending me some info on that remote mount? I will be putting a bypass system on but that mod is close to the bottom of the list of mods I'd like to do right now.

I took the intake hose off when I changed the filter on my '03. The first time I had to relocate the boost hose fitting bolts to make more room. I changed the filters in my '95, '98, and '01.5 from above. It just seemed normal to change the '03 from above. The last time I changed it I loosened it from above and then crawled under it to unscrew it and lower it down through the narrow hole. It wasn't too bad. I wonder where it'll be in '07 or '08 when I'm back rattlin'...

Interesting...DCX must have moved something on the 04.5+ trucks (I hope not!). The oil filter on my '04 is one of the easiest I've ever had to remove. Roll underneath with a 3/8" ratchet, 3/8" 8"extension, and the proper size filter wrench. Loosen, unscrew, and drop down through the hole without spilling a drop; takes about 30 seconds.
