I am getting ready to start doing my own oil changes. I read on genos that the OEM drain plugs can become brittle and crack, as the flush mount design leaves little shoulder on bolt.

Genos offers different replacement options:
1. brass drain plug that appears heavy duty and uses a hex head bolt head- not oem flush mount style with square head sunken in

2. quick drain valves/plugs). The replacement drain plug looks pretty beefy.

CONCERNS:

1. How secure/safe are these replacements (vibrating loose, strip threads,
not flush mount, etc.)?

2. Possibility of someone messing around and crawling under truck and
draing oil (with drain valve style)

Should I keep my OEM or replace?

OEM is fine, just don't overtorque.

The plugs with the valves sure make it easy & no mess to change your oil. Have had them on 5 different trucks & no problems.

Go Fumoto. Have 'em on every single vehicle I own and have ever owned.

I put quick drain valve from Genos on mine the last time I changed the oil. I haven't used the valve to drain the oil yet but no issues with leaking or anything else. Its definately a well made product.

I have a fumoto and like it. No leaks or problems so far. Makes oil changes quicker/easier and cleaner!

a valve hanging down would catch mud and brantches when your in 4 mheel drive, it would happen to me that is. flat mount plug for me

Just replaced my stock drain plug with the Geno's EZ Drain Plug 2 days ago, I haven't drained oil from it yet. I just like the idea of no mess oil changes. The $52 price is a bit high.

I have used afumoto on previous vehicles, I just didn't like the idea of it hanging down from the pan. I have never read of one breaking, but with my luck I'd be the first.

I picked up the heavy duty one, from Genos, you spoke of.
I figure it will sit in the parts bin until/if I think the stock one looks like it may fail. Course, I also go by the owners manual for plug torque 37ft-lbs.

ez drain plug. No issues with it hanging down and catching stuff.

I got the Geno's heavy duty. I didn't want to worry about the standard plug cracking, although I'm sure it holds up find most of the time, and I like the idea of the magnet on the Geno's plug.
