Oil Changes in D/FW Area

Hello All

I know I should be doing the oil changes myself, but I don't. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good place for oil changes in the North Dallas area that would be familiar with the CTD. I've had two at the dealership and have been dissappointed both times. First time they underfilled by two quarts the second time it took them forever.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

Good question. One that I'll be anxious to see the answer to. I haven't decided if I'm going to do them myself or not. My initial thought was to take the new filter and oil down to the local quick lube and pay them for their labor. That way I KNOW they're using the right filter and the right oil...and I don't have to dispose of the old oil. I need to decide pretty quick though because my first oil change is right around the corner....

My local Jiffy lube will let me bring in my own stuff. Still gonna charge me abou $18 though. I think it'll be worth it, for me personally.

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

I have my dealer down here in Waxahachie do it; they do a good job. Having said that, my brother lives in the North Dallas area and has not been impressed with the dealers up there, so you might try to find a Cummins service center to do it, or by your own filters and oil and take it to Jiffy or KwikKar (if you can trust those folks to pay attention long enough to use what you brough instead of their habitary of-the-shelf routine).

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

I don't think we have a Cummins center in this area do we??

I'm still trying to decide if I trust the Jiffy Lube guys to do it right or not. I may end up doing it myself anyway...even though there's not a lot of room under the front end of a 4x2. :

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

I'm not too confident in Jiffy Lube. The one near my house sent a neighbor's car out without filling the crankcase. They paid for engine repairs, but I don't think I want those basic hourly guys working on my CTD.

I think I'm going to order the stuff and have a service station near my house do the changes.

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

The quick lube by me charges $68 for the oil/filter change on a Cummins. They use Pennzoil filters, which by the way is made by Fram. I said no thanks. For less than $25 I can do it myself.

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

I live in North Dallas (for now...) and have only been impressed by one dealer - Huffines Dodge in Plano. Service manager there was proactive about the gear clatter and told me about the TSB and was honest enough to tell me they don't have the equipment to do a change out on the clutch for a 1-ton. Will wait on this until I'm back in Calgary....
Our neighbours go to Huffines with their mini-van and have had good reviews also...they also replaced my alternator brackets and their parts guys chased these down within two weeks.
There's another dealer on I-75 that I went to for my first oil change and that's why I now do oil changes myself....really quite easy.
Oil filters come from Geno's....Valvoline Blue comes from the Cummins dealer - off I-35 west of the downtown. Name of Cummins Southern Plains Inc - 3707 Irving Boulevard, Dallas (214) 631-6400
Don't know about their service...but they have parts for the ISB.
good luck....Steve

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

If your only choice is Jiffy Lube, I would choose to do it myself.

Also you might want to look in the yellow pages, you might be able to find a lube-center that is individually owned. Where you could possibly talk to the owner, It seems to me they are more concerned with customer service.

Lastly check out a mobil lube guy, usually the guy that does the changes is the owner and he will work for you. Don't forget you can usually bring your own lubes to the independants as well, which will get you a pretty good discount.

Yes, and there is another Cummins Southern Plains on I-30 in Mesquite. I'm thinking there might be one somwhere between Lewisville and Denton as well.

I don't think there's one between Lewisville and Denton or I would have seen it....but I do now know that there's one in Arlington, Dallas, Ft. Worth and Mesquite.

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

I've taken mine to Huffines in Plano twice to have the oil and filter changed, I took my own oil and had them use the mopar filter, they charged me $10 for the labor... quite a deal in my opinion...

Re:Oil Changes in D/FW Area

Huffines is a good deal. There Chevy store is actual one of the dealers that I audit.

I take my Dodge to Grapevine Dodge. They always have the filters in stock, only about a 45 min wait. They always let me know if there are recalls and if they need to be taken care of they have a rental car waiting for me if they need to order something.

Grapevine gets my vote.
