View Full Version : OIL CHANGE AND HOW TO INCREASE FUEL
Hi I just recently bought a 2002 Dodge 2500 Diesel and I have put about 600 miles. When should I do my first oil change and do I have to go to a Dodge Dealer. How does this work for the warranty.

I would appreciate any input. Also what type of fuel additive do any of you boys reccomend.

Thanks, Coho,
Howdy, Coho - and Welcome to the site. 8)

Well, I have not got my baby yet, but I'll bet one of the guys here who have gotten theirs will post the first recommended oil change. I'm curious what it is being the regular interval is now 15,000 miles (!!!).

My dealer (West Valley Dodge) does a first oil change at 1,000 miles for free. I'm not sure if it's really necessary, but it's a good PR move for the shop. They want to get you in and then hope you'll keep coming back.

I don't recommend oil additives. Just use a good oil.

I've been partial to Rotella T in my two prior Cummins and Ford PSD - great stuff. But, I've been running Delvac 1 synthetic in my VW TDI and may just give it a try in the new truck after I've put about 20,000 miles on it. Delvac 1 is expensive stuff (about $20 a gallon here) but I figure with 15,000 mile oil change intervals it won't sting too badly.

I'm hoping one of the more compulsive members here will post oil analysis results at the 15,000 mile oil change marks. Those results may just help me make the decision on whether to stick with good Dino oil or go with the synthetic.

Best to y'all
Bill :)
