oil analysis-price??

call me a cheap skate- but i don't want to spend 23.00 bucks or up of an oil analysis. i don't live near a big rig shop, etc where i could drop it off for a cheaper price. the cheapest i could find online was for 14.95 from a company called http://www.vehicare.com/oilcheck.htm- but i have seen any members using them. anybody using a reputable company that is charging a reasonable price-like 14.00 to 18.00 bucks

ya get what you pay for most of the time. That's probably not something to be cheap about.

I know that blackstone is 22.50 but they give you a detailed description of what it all means if your not so mechanically inclined!!! LOLOL To lower the price, you can order MORE oil kits prepaid. I bought 5 and it lowered the price to your price range. More upfront but Less per sample...

I use Schaeffer Specialize Lubricants and they send me a sample kit with every order...And if I order $500 or more they send 3 kits....
I have about 20 stocked up in the shop... maybe I should start selling them for $10!

Lab can analysis your oil and tell you what contaminants are in it... silicone, copper, brass, steel, and many many other compounds that will let you know if you are getting any unusual wear of internal components like bearings or if your air cleaner is letting in too much dirt...
It will also tell you if there was a weight change to your oil and if you can go farther on your next change without risk of wear damage.

There are others in here that can give you more info... If I had my last report here I could tell you exactly what they can tell you.

I never used to do it until I had a coolant problem and we sent in a sample to see if there was coolant in the oil. THere was NOT, so it helped to rule out a head gasket etc.. But like the above said, for the cost of the service you can see potential problems WAY before they become major... Possibly being able to get something fixed under warranty instead of after it breaks down the road..
