Oil accumolator for blow by?????

Ok guys. Some of you are aware of the truck and dealer from hell that I am dealing with here in Texas. Well I need to get back to Iowa with a boat and I don't want oil getting all over the boat. So I think, I have come up with an idea and wondering what your opionions are. I used to race dirt track and we had an oil accumolator on the car. I am thinking I can do the same thing on the truck to catch all the oil that comes out the crank case vent tube. I will run a longer hose from that to a tank to drain in the top of the tank to catch oil mounted somewhere under the truck. I will then put a petcock on the bottom to drain it when it gets too full of oil. But on the top of the tank where the oil line will be run to it I will drill small holes to release all the vent pressure and blow by.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a heavy duty tarp wrapped around the bow of the boat would be a quicker, better, and cheaper temp fix. Also, extend the crank breather down with a piece of hose until it's about 6" above the road bed.

Ditto. I just haven't had the time to do mine yet.

I agree with Joe. I don't like the idea of oil spooging out to make a mess under the truck and on the trailer.

A catch can could be pretty cheap and easy to make. You could probably use a 2 liter soda bottle, duct tape, and some baling wire. When it get full you can dump it back into the crank case - as long as it's not contaminated by road grime and water.

I might have to take pitcures of what I make. I think I am going to get some clear PVC pipe like 3-5" and glue a cap on both ends and drill and tap it for fittings and cut the current hose on the truck so it will be an even flow into the catch can.

I would leave the cover on the boat but with a 1,000 mile trip home there is the chance that it could come loose or flap in the wind and ruin the clear coat on the boat and leave marks. Not what I would really like.

So the easier thing for me at this point until I get the engine replaced and then ever after I do. I will leave the catch can on the truck.

Well guys. All I am going to do is use a heavy duty plastic bottle and push it up over the vent hose and then duct tape some wire to the bottle and the wire it to the frame. And then every so often stop and take it off and drain the oil. I will see how this works to Iowa from Texas and then make a permanant one back home.

I just got a 2qt jug mounted on the truck and will be hitting the road for Iowa. I will let you all know later today when I stop how it works.

Thanks

Quiet a few years I remember seeing a pic (might have been on the TDR) of a home made catch can made from a large aspirin bottle. Drilled a hole all the way through at the top of the bottle and a hole at the bottom of the vent tube. A tie wrap through the holes held the two together.
