OEM 7-way trailer wiring harness relocatioin for gooseneck

2005 3500 with built in trailer harness 7-way plug next to license plate. Problem, I don't pull tag along I pull a gooseneck and don't want to butcher my harness to add 7-way plug in bed. The trailer connecter has a 10 pin plug coming from the truck wiring harness plugged into the back of it only 6 wires used. I have looked and looked and no-one seems to make anything that would plug in between factory wiring harness and trailer recepticle with a built in splice to reach another recepticle mounted in bed side. If I could find the male and female plugs needed I could make this harness but I have had no luck yet. Plan to call some tech lines for some hitch manufacturers tommorow.

I have used a wiring kit that plugs in to the harness for trailer plugs, but the customer got it. I think they got it at the dealer. I think a company in mich might have them too. State Wire and Terminal. 1-800-922-6527. I don't know if they deal with the public or just businesses. If they won't talk to you e mail me and I will contact them.

I moved my OEM plug up inside the bed, installed it right behind the wheel well up on the side, this way I can hook up my 5er without having the cord go over the tailgate, then I bought a connection that plugs into the tail light plug that has wires comming off it that I ran to another Polack plug on the rear bumper .

Cheers, Kevin

Check this thread out. I did something very similar, except I bough a replacement 7pin with a 4' pigtail. I just spliced it under the bumper so I have both plugs available. Works great. Just make sure you seal all the splices to keep moisture out.

You can buy an upgrade harness. This is to upgrade from a 4 pin flat connector to a 7-way. It has the Mopar brand pollak recepticle with 10 pin plug on back, harness to plug into existing 4pin flat connector and the rest is hardwired to the fusepanel. It is $75 and would require a 4pin flat extension cable and a couple of splices this would be the neatest way I've found so far that is actually obtainable. I talked with pollak who makes the recepticle for Mopar and they said they have wanted to make a "T" harness for this but Mopar would not let them produce this for sale sense they have rights to this recepticle that plugs to Mopar's harness. I have found a deal where you can unplug trailer harness from 7-way connector and plug a harness in that only has a 4-pin flat for pre 2003 trucks I don't know why this would be necessary but it looks almost identicle to the 4 pin flat harness Hoppy makes for 1999-2001 vans.
