odd brake prblem

Bit of back story.....Replaced rotors/pads on the truck in my sig last week. During the job, broke an ABS sensor. R&R sensor, continued the job. Now, when coming to a stop(under 10mph), there is a momentary buzzing/vibration in the pedal, then the pedal goes rock-hard. If I hold the pedal at the same position, as the truck slows further the brakes work normally again. Everything seems to work normally above 10 mph.
Any ideas?

did you replace with new or repair sensor? if new pull the sensor back out and look real close at the tip! it is magnetic and might have a small piece of metal shaving on it . I had the exact same thing happen to my 01 and that was it. hope thats it for you . let us know what you find.

Definitely an ABS problem.
If you force the calipers back with a tool (clamp, etc) without opening the bleed screw when changing pads it's likely you'll damage the ABS controller.

I kind of suspected that. That'll teach me to be in a hurry. What gets damaged inside the controller(never had one apart...)?

wow i never knew that. is that a dodge thing? ive changed brakes on fords and chevys ive owned, they had ABS and i never had a problem from using a c-clamp to open calipers.

are you refering to the bleed screw on the caliper? or is there one on the ABS controller or something?

thanks

You were just lucky, forcing the calipers back doesn't always damage the ABS. Don't why it's hit or miss but it definitely can damage the controller.

You should open the bleeder on the caliper.
Even if it didn't damage the controller and even if there is no ABS, forcing the fluid back into the system is a bad practice.
The dirtiest fluid in the system is in the calipers. Forcing it back just contaminates the rest of the system.
No big deal opening the bleeder to force the calipers back, you won't have to bleed the brakes afterwards, maybe just add a bit more fluid.
Opening up bleeder then prying open the calipers should be the first steps after removing the tire.
