Smile OBD code reader for 2nd gen?

Would anyone know what if any code readers are available for my 02 Ram diesel?I bought a Equus(innova)3130 OBD2 reader but returned it after I contacted Equus to see if my truck was OBD2 compatable. They said because its a heavy GVW that it most likely wouldnt read the computer properly.
Thanx

You can do the key truck on your truck so you can check and see if you have any codes.

The best code reader for these second gen trucks is Smarty, hands down.

The Smarty is a programmer which adds power to 2nd gen trucks & also reads codes. It works only on our 2nd gen rams, no other vehicles. Here is a link. http://smartypower.com/new/vpsmarty.html

An OBD2 compliant code reader or code scanner is going to read any and all OBD2 conforming codes the ECM/PCM stores reguardless of the GVWR.
That's what the OBD2 standard is for- now, the problem is that Chrysler vehicles are not fully OBD2 compliant, so only the OBD2 codes the ECM and PCM generates will be read, but there are other codes that is cannot read and you need either the key test or the DRB tool to read.

Newer vehicles use CAN instead of OBD2 (which replaced OBD1....) and that is yet again a standard, and yet again Chrysler is not CAN Compliant.

In contrast- most vehicle manufacturer's are not fully OBD2 or fully CAN compliant, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, for example have their own systems as well. That's why the mechanics scanners like the Snap-on and the OTC systems are so expensive and have updates and modules- to understand the different code systems.
