nv4500 questions

hey guys, im not sure if this is the best place for this but here goes.. i've been lookin to drop the highway rpms on my 69 dart 340 4spd, researching the 'overdrive' a833 etc, and it has been suggested to me to go with an nv4500 out of a 99ish 2wd 2500, or im assuming something similar. my initial thoughts are that this wouldn't be the ideal tranny due to maybe feeling like your driving a school bus or something not a street / strip car.. so anyone with one of these 5 spds, can you tell me your thoughts and stuff, obviously i'll need to fab up, modify or purchase an aftermarket / short throw shifter, among modifying linkages etc, i dont even know if its a hyd. or manual clutch.. but would it be an ok thing to put a tranny like this in a muscle car? and how strong are they reported to be. this car is fairly light, 3300 or something, has at times, 12" of slicks in the rear, and has over 500 rwhp.. im not sure if an aftermarket 5spd or a t56 is in the budget for me at this time, but if i could do the whole swap for an affordable dollar then it'd be sweet, im just scared that i'll regret putting a truck trans in a sporty car type thing

The NV4500 is heavy (approx 200lbs) and huge. It will require work to make it fit.
Not sure if there is a short throw for it.

Yea they do make short shift kits for them from BD but in my opinion I wouldn't put the nv4500 in cause like Ispeed said they are kinda bulky and not a really fast shifting tranny. I mean for a truck they are fairly quick shifting but for a car I think there is better options out there.

Call Keisler, they are in any hot rod book, TKO600 or variant.

A NV4500 would shift like, well, a truck trans.

How about a 3500? It may be light enough, but may not shift the way you would want in a car.

The 3500 is still a truck/Jeep trans. Gonna be a bear to speed shift it, althought both B&M and Hurst make short throw shifters for it.

I think you may want to look into something from a car, either a 5 or 6 speed. Will be easier to install (fit), and it won't shift like a truck.
