Ok so my dust seal on my nv271d t case tail shaft is half way ripped around on top, anyone know a part number for just this item? Is it just pressed in? it doesnt look like ill need to tear into the case itself correct? thanks!

If its visible from the outside its just a dust seal.

On a side note, I keep seeing the transfer cases refered to as NV 273, but they're made by New Process Gear, correct? Wouldn't that make them NP 273s?

I do believe that I have the same problem that you do. It may just be a dust seal, but that doesn't make me want to replace it any less. Something in the back of my little mind tells me that if it is there, it is there for a reason IDK

They all crack. Both of my transfer cases have the cracked dust covers.
As long as you don't have a puddle underneath your truck you have nothing to worry about.
