Re:NV 5600 -Do you have to change the fluid
I believe the maintenence section of your owners manual states something to effect of... being permanently lubricated and does not require fluid changes as part of regular maintenence.
I think that is horse poo... even though at 35k I haven't changed it with no problems. My conscience is telling me to get it changed... just don't seem right not to. The fluid specified is outrageously expensive, and only available from Mopar (I think, help me out here guys).... There's other guys running alternative fluids such as Amsoil, Redline, and Royal Purple without problem...
Just remember, the 5600 is fully synchronized, so the fluid must be "yellow metal" friendly.
Good luck

I would recommend changing the fluid. I have always changed tranny fluid and rear end fluid at 20k mile intervals.
For tranny gear lube Pennzoil Synchomax meets Mopar spec and is alot cheaper than the Mopar brand lubricant.

Yep, remove the PTO cover to drain. Takes about 5 qts to fill the NV5600.

I thought I had seen somewhere that you only had to remove one of the lower corner bolts on the cover to drain the fluid. Mine only has 7000 miles so I have not changed mine yet.
