nv-4500 slips out of 5th when coasting

I have a NV-4500 that slips out of 5th gear when coasting.
It goes into gear fine and is fine when on the throttle, it just happens when coasting.
Are the syncos going in it?
I don't think it is the 5th gear backing off as I have had that problem, before on another truck.
Any ideas of what it would take to fix this? and $$
Thanks!

If you leave your hand on the shifter will it stay on gear?

And when the but falls off you shouldn't be able to put it in 5th, so that not the problem for sure

Do you feel it click into gear? If not it could be as simple as a broken detent spring. If the detent is good, probably time for a 5th gear assy. on the countershaft.

I am thinking if I keep my hand with light pressure on the stick, it will stay in gear, but I will check.

I will also look for the click into gear feeling when I put it in 5th.
I am guessing the click into gear feeling means the spring is working?

Thanks a lot for the helpful ideas!

Yes, if you feel it click, then the detent is working, although the spring could be weak enough that it is still not holding it in gear. There are heavier springs, but that is really just a patch to cover worn gears.
