I am a definate maybe![laugh]

Ran into the Oklahoma kids (Matt and Russell) in the maroon dually (the one Mike fixed the G56 on) on the way home from work this evening about 11:30. We were both coming up through Plano on highway 75 and they started waving me down. They were coming back from Buda. Anyway....said they had a blast....after we stopped at the next exit. And Matt is loving the new traction bars...>Mike.

And so am I!

I'm in...

Now if I can just find a way to always make my truck run with this stance, I've got a project...

http://www.jmers.com/images/100_0504.JPG

Plus it rides so nice right now too. These trucks do so much better with some weight on them. I've got 3 bucket loads of wet sandy fill dirt in the bed that we brought home yesterday. The drive down 75 was nice with the extra weight.

Anybody wanna come help me unload?

Not much for me..........rotate tires and fix leaky washer fluid jug.....unless I do it sooner.

AggieJustin

If I don't get to it before then, tracking down the reason for my little leak at #5.

Otherwise, nothing else planned at the moment.

My truck is fastly approaching 90,000 miles and is due for my "20,000" mile service interval..........including diffs, coolant drain and refill, replace fuel inline strainer, stock and 2 micron fuel filters, change oil, prob change serpentine belt out, change out ps fluid, rotate tires, maybe a couple of other things. ( am I missing anything that you normally do to your truck in a routine maintenance???????????????)

The only thing I don't need to do is service the transmission/transfer case as James just did it.

If I can come up with the funds, I need to finish paying Mike for the traction bars........and I really want to put on a new HTT SS turbo/exh. manifold REALLY REALLY bad![director]

I'm planning on...
- some rust removal/sanding/painting on rear bumper!
- need to figure why #1 injector line doesn't loosen up like others after you break the nut loose. Have to use a wrench all the way out??
- polish front bumper
- maybe install rest of Adrenaline gauges?

Just small stuff.

Looks like Carrollton is going to slip right through the break between the storms.

Just a light rain here right now....

EDIT (since I don't want 3 posts in a row): Did Pete Delkus on Channel 8 just get tired of talking? He was on non-stop from about 7pm right up till the heaviest part of the storm got to downtown Dallas. Then he kicked it back to programming. I guess downtown Dallas and points east don't really matter? [dummy]

Almost seemed like what we get in Giddings out of the Austin stations. They'll track a storm non-stop from the far west Hill Country, right through Austin. As soon as it hits east Austin, they sign off. "Good luck to everyone east of here, you've got nasty stuff coming your way at some point" [laugh]

Anyone go to Mineral Wells looking for deals on hail-damaged vehicles?

The guy reporting from Mineral Wells last night on Channel 8 said he saw people walking around on the car lots "shopping" for good deals on hail vehicles. Something makes me think they weren't shopping for vehicles that look like the were worked over with a sledgehammer. [dummy]

Since it looks like we may have a few new guys this go-round, so I thought I'd lay down the ground rules and a little info about The Ranch.

* If you're of age and want to drink, no problem. Don't plan on getting falling down drunk and obnoxious. If you drink every much, don't expect us to let you drive. I won't let some drunk kill someone in my family or theirs or anyone else's!

* The Ranch is pretty primitive......running water and electricity. I do furnish bushes, a shovel and a seat. :) Otherwise, it's 10 miles to McDonalds. Rowj can tell you how long it takes to get there. You're welcome to bring a tent or small camper if you're self contained.

* I have an air compressor, an electric impact, floor jack, stands and various other tools. If you need some kind of specialty tool, you best bring it and parts. It's about 20 miles to the nearest parts store.

* Sometimes we cook and sometimes we order pizza. The closest place to eat is the McDonalds, a Burger King and a Sonic. To be safe, best bring your drinks, snacks and whatever else you might want to eat. Also, don't forget you lawn chair.

We always have a good time. Usually a little wrenching and the BS always flows like good wine. If you have any questions, PM me.

time for a rant,
1. i was having cell phone issues, so i went in for software upgrades, PHONE CRASHED all contacts were lost. i got another new phone but i dont think my issues were resolved.

2. i pull onto my street and see a giant orange sticker on my little gas saver car. 88 nissan sentra on her last leg. saying it has to be moved within 72 hours. so now i have to atlest drive it once every 3 days, and park in a slightly different spot.

Back when i lived in Coppell, i had my old '86 Ford 150 project truck. Had full air in all the tires...looked drivable, sitting in the back of the house in the drive way on concrete. They hit me for out of date tags and said that i had to tag it or move it behind the fence (Dad was not having any of that…and plus it could be seen from the street due to the wrought iron fence we had...).....well didn’t have an engine or fnt end at the time...SO.....i had to bust my rear and move it to Paris, TX......only to have the tires and wheels stolen off it when sitting out there.....that was fun...

Well I have been thinking about taking my truck in a slightly different direction and adding 1998 2nd gen red "Sport" emblems to the front doors. And im also considering having the LS traction bars powdercoated Red. I think a small "splash" of red on an all black and no chrome truck might look good. Thoughts?

You have been selling us for years on the all black look....and i dont know.....Honestly.....you have the sharpest 3rd gen i have seen....only thing you need is an SRT-10 hood.....i dig the all black.....If i were you...i would get them and paint them black...have a black on black look.......

But if you must, Maybe some red neon under the truck..........OH! And thoes little fire fly valve stem lights...and, ALSO i have seen some red LED's that mount in your exhaust pipe! Dont forget the sun visor.........haha.....

Not digging the red color on the otherwise all black truck.

I wouldn't bother trying to make those bars red - if you really want another color, sell them and get a new set powdercoated.

I like the badges, and if you DO put red traction bars on - maybe I won't be powder coating the Monster Bars for the '98 in red after all... but then they won't match the control arms, 3rd Gen trackbar, SSSSS, LazarLinks, etc. :(

Sounds like the consensus here is to do the emblems.....but leave the traction bars black. (it would be a while before doing those anyway, if I did)

I love Dan's idea of a SRT 10 hood. Texasram2500's truck was hit by hail here in McKinney and he got one for no additional cost over stock. Looks sweet! It's a week to week thing around here on whether my truck will get by a hail storm.[verymad]

Seriously....i think that would look tight on your ride.....even with the CTD "C" emblem......I would go with Flat black so it doesn’t look like you just painted over them! haha... Prime them up and then paint them flat black....would be inconspicuous but could be seen when looked at.....sticks with the theme....

Justin, I need hose to make a new wastegate actuator/trubo connection.
I've been using Silicon hose, which is great for heat but is too soft.... my band clamps that hold it on keep cutting it and ripping off under pressure.

If they have right size with a good hard outer casing in it, I'd take 4' or so. (Gives me a future spare). Don't bother if any trouble...
I was going to run to McKinney Sat morn and look around anyway. The Cummins shop there is open Sat am, FYI.

Rowland, are you using shielded clamps?

Didn't know there was such a thing... oh the ones with rubber liners?
My best guess at hose OD is 3/8"??
String ties wouldn't hold the hose on at 65+psi, so went to band clamps!

RJ

XLR8R
04-28-2008, 01:34 PM
No, they have an internal SS band that keeps the thread slots from cutting into the silicone. The best ones are also constant-tension types (since silicone shrinks when heated), but not necessary in diameters less than 2" and sub-100psi pressures IMO.

I'll bring some appropriately-sized shielded SS clamps with me - that should solve your problem.

Thanks but not sure that will solve!
It's the outside edge of my clamps that cuts into hose. Did not know Silicon shrinks...maybe I've been over tightening? I assumed the hose was balloning a bit under pressure and the clamp edge was digging into it?

I don't feel comfortable driving on a grave...even if there isn't much left of it. [laugh]

If I would have had room, I could have brought you a bed full of gravel when I came home last weekend. Instead, I brought home a full bed of sand from our pile at home....yard is almost all taken care of.

Well im not sure if dinner(s) have been completely decided or not. I went to Walmart tonight and picked up a box of 32 HB paddies and 2 packs of hotdogs, buns, chips, etc. if anybody wants any. I also got some charcoal and starter. Should have plenty of ketchup....cheese, hopefully mustard. If you want any other HB trimmings...you will have to bring it. BYOB.[coffee]

I am planning on going ahead and bringing the Toyhauler for those that prefer not to sleep in the bed of the trucks. The weather should be pretty nice...70s during the day and 50s at night and not as windy as the past few days. Perfect, imo.

Also, James Northum will hopefully be up Saturday afternoon.

Probably the biggest crowd I've seen at the Ranch in a while. Plus there is now the new firepit.

The trip home was uneventful...managed to slip right back into clutchless shifting without too much problem. The 2Low was a lifesaver for getting it backed up on the driveway at home. Right now, I have just enough clutch pressure to get it into gear and start coming off the floor before it takes off. Luckily, I won't need it to drive around this week while I was for new hydraulics.

thought about painting them, but i am worried about getting them sealed back up properly, i would be very "ticked off" if they fogged up or got condensation in them. and they outsides of my current have a little haze to them already.

Cool beans on the bumper. Got the tool tray with hardware here in the shed.

RJ the 12v did not have oil pressure when we tried to fire it up. So I had to fly back home empty handed. Check the oil release vavle and is not stuck open. So Rob will now have to remove the top turbo oil line and back fead oil through the oil filter housing IOT primp the oil pump up. We got everything done @ 5pm on Tuesday but no oil press. What a bummer. But I least I got a chance to check out the truck. I is a bit rough and will need some body work and new driver side seat bottom. But thats why a call it the project truck. Start with the expensive stuff first (drivetrain) and once that is done move to the body and interior. Guess it could classify as a rat rod. LOL. We install a custom 50 gal steel fuel tank as well. Looks like a coffin up under the truck. I'll give you a buzz later this evening.

I know yours is a common rail, but check your manual. Mine says to burn anything but "Jet A & Jet B". Could be because of the lubricity, but worth checking.
