Thumbs up Now the proud owner of a CTD!!

Howdy boys, I just got this '94 one ton 4x4 with the mighty Cummins and a 5spd this morning. Its a really sharp truck for its age. Has a near new flat bed on it. I'll have to get some pictures of it on here. Put about 120 miles on it so far, so I'm going to check the mileage on my next fillup. Its got 4:10 gears so I had to drive a little slower than normal to keep the rpm's down but she outta pull good! Git'r done!

Nice to hear another happy camper, just wait till you get some power in it, you will wonder why you liked it before.

First thing though, check your throttle cable from the cab, it should have no play just the tension of the spring(you'll know that I'm talking about when you see it) If it is loose, mine was over 2" then home depot has these cable clamps or I just used zip ties(8 of them) and it will help a ton!!

Yea I'd like to really power this baby up but I really want to keep the mpg's up so I dont use so much fuel! I think the stock dp will have to go and at least 4" exhaust will lead to a 4" 48" long curved chrome pipe. Gotta love the sound of a 6 cyl turbo diesel!! All my neighbors can hear me 2-3 miles away with '90 International 8300 semi I've got with two 6" straight pipes and the big cam 3 cummins. I love the sound of the jake with those pipes!! Too bad cummins didn't come out with the same jake brake system they use in the big diesels for the 6bt.

Go ahead and add some power, u won't hurt mpgs much at all if u do it right. And you can actually gain some mpg's in some ways adding power. I feel for u, with the 5spd and 4.10's, as it can get really annoying on the freeway or any roads above 60 for that matter. But you made the right choice and hope u have a good time with it.

I filled up this morning after church and it took 11 gallons to 133 miles!! Ugh! I'm going to have to do something bout that. I also noticed a small coolant leak. Hope its not a head gasket. I'll have to pull it in the shop sometime and check it out.

Well you need some hp upgrades then. In all actuality you do not have enough power for your vehicle, ideally 250-300 hp will benefit you pocket wise and you won't get run over on the free way. My #8 fuel plate brought me from 160hp 400 ft/lbs to 210 560 and my mileage went up a lot. Exhaust and an intake will benefit you the most without "adding power". Simply a fuel plate and some 215 injectors will help or just injectors if you do not want to spend much. I hear Pensacola stage 1's will help a lot and a $20 boost fitting which will get you a little more boost then stock. I hope you find the mileage you want.

u can grind ur own fuel plate out of the stock one in ur truck.

You should be gettting alot better than 12mpg. I average 18-19 every tank, best was 21.

Man thats what I told my dad when we got this truck it would get at least 17-20 mpg. Would fuel pressure cause this problem? The exhaust shouldn't be a problem its a 3" straight pipe. Air filter looks alright, head gasket is leaking coolant under the t-stat housing- that sucks. When I pull the head off I'll have the injectors checked out, and maybe the pump. How big a deal is it to do the fuel plate?

The best thing you can do for milage is to bump the timing up, mine is at 16.5* and it made a very noticable inpact.

Don't forget to check the air pressure in your tires.

I have got over 20 with 410s and some mods you just have to keep it out of the govenor. but I also run 285/75/16 fcIIs. The bigger tires made a big difference.
