Let me look real quick here. I'll be here from the 19th till the 25th of Nov. I'll be in Houston 2 times and then Colorado the rest of the month till mid Dec. It would be great to plan it sometime between the 19th-25th, but if not that's fine too.

Here we go! Went to the drag strip with my girl last night and had 3 runs.
11.401 - nothing special
11.217 - 10 psi boost launch, air filter off, tailgate down, mirrors folded in
11.304 - same as above, no boost launch though
That was freakin awesome. I was the only diesel there, it was an 1/8 mile track. Beat the first guy in a ricer, then I got beat the other 2. Mainly just wanted to see what I could run. Reaction time on the 2nd run was .621 and 0-60 feet was 2.106 Would've been better at a 1/4 mile cause just at the end of the track it went to 4th gear and it fuels hard in that gear. So would've gotten a bit better. At the end of the runs I was catching up to the ones I didn't beat.
I think we need to get with the North Texas Chapter and do something there real big to kick off the new year!!!!! What do ya'll say about that!?!!!???

That'd be cool (literally), you'd get to meet Charlie and find out how well he likes the cold. [laugh]
Good job, your truck is faster than mine, best I could do (before clutch started slipping) was an 11.8.

I'm in for that too, Randy we got coles truck finally straightened out today. That was some serious crap to go through. His truck should run in the high 9's in the 1/8 now seems pretty quick from his words. Needs injectors and water and she will be cookin. His throttle control circuit was lose after all the codes and clearing and driving woo wee glad its fixed and he likes it. I believe he was getting a little upset but I stuck with him and got'er whipped. What do you think your truck runs in the 1/8?
Jordan good runs! other than burning a ricer what else were you running against? I personaly like mustangs and camaros to play with. They get mad as a dickens.

Well the other one was a guy in a dakota, a little newer big fat tires and other junk lol. He pulled away with an 8.something, then the other was a porche.
Funny thing was, the one that I beat that suped up ricer, my girl was in the truck with me and I didn't fold the mirrors in, pull the tailgate down, or take off the filter. Just put in a little more weight and I beat it! lol Thought it was funny. We pulled up to the line my windows were down, he saw there was 2 of us inside of about a 7500# truck and he got a look on his face like give me something worth while to run against. Well, he got more than he thought! lol
Anyway, we all have to go do that sometime!

Jordan5687
10-28-2007, 06:28 PM
Yeah, I was actually, I think I would've gotten them if it was a 1/4 mile. Cause it was just shifting to 4th when it was up and it fuels super hard in 3rd and especially 4th. oh well, I still had tons of fun, and think we all need to have a big meet out there! How about it Matt!? Sometime. What did you decide for this months meet?

Me and blueandsilver02 would definitely up for coming to the meet if you guys have it at the track. I sold my smarty the other day to a guy who didnt want to wait for one to be shipped but I will have another one, an xzillaraider and Jammer 5's or DDP 150's REAL soon.........then we will find out what that Southbend is capable of holding. I also hope I am faster than I was with just the edge comp too.

Well ya'll might have to have it without me this time. I'll be there (home) from Nov. 2nd - 11th. Then I'll be out from the 12th - the 20th. Then I'll be there (home) on the 21st - the 24th. Then out from the 25th - about the 12th or so of Dec. Then I'm home for good lol lol. Kinda a crazy schedule lol, but if I can't make it, that's fine. Would like to be able to though lol.

Any time of the day works for me and it was great meeting you too although I had been at that party too long[coffee]. I must admit I was very impressed with your truck and have to compliment the combination as it was WAY faster than any 1st Gen ive ever ridden in! Anyway, Im going to try to make it to the next meet if I can although I may not be much over stock since that set of aluminum LS6 heads for my racecar that were in my floorboard set me back a little bit. Id love to be able to make it out and see what the other local guys have going and take another ride in your truck with the pump turned up.....

One more thing I forgot to ask was: can you put an intercooler on that truck and would you benefit from it? Just curious and I will be the first to admit that Im not up to date on the mods that work for the 1st Gens.

Thats a big no no. THeres nothing worse in the world than the sound of a straight piped v8 diesel...might as well straight pipe my moms impala and drive it around [coffee].
UBR stacks....I like the sound of that. Weve got some heavy 6" ID pipe left over from the pipeline on our place. Not too heavy though, so along with the 6" square tubing I got for free....some 4" flex and an elbow is all I have to buy. I probably should start saving money for college, cause all this attention to trucks is gonna drop my grades and kill my scholarships[laugh].

Well I'm back on and in the loop!!!! Anyway, I was gonna try to take my truck to the dyno then also. I might just go watch lol. I hauled a load of about 29k the other day and I kinda tor up my trany again lol, it's under waranty still. It's going in the shop tomorrow. I need to figure out what I can do to pull those big loads???!!! Maybe get a used mini semi just for hauling stuff sell this one and downsize a bit...still diesel but not 1 ton or 4wd. I'm not sure what to do, or keep this one and just use it to haul stuff put the money into it now and then to get new guts in the trany and get another one for everyday driving??? Mine might be up for sale in a few months, if anyone wants it!!! lol lol. I'll trade ya Randy! I'd still need to get a hauler though.
What do ya'll think!???? I need some help lol..
cbtumedic
11-07-2007, 12:27 PM
Jordan, you need to get you something in a class 5 or 6 international with a dt466 for pulling that heavy of loads, Tough as nails and the best diesel engine besides a 6bt, IMO. Get yourself one built between 92 and 95 and they have p-pumps on them. Just something to think about.
Jordan5687
11-07-2007, 12:44 PM
Thanks for the help. I've still got a few things I have to wait on and then decide what I'm gonna do. I'm trying to get another job, full time and haul the hay while I can. So depending on that and when that is, hopefully in a few months then I'll know better what I need to do for that. Where can I look into those trucks??? And about how much would that cost? I don't want to spend a fortune but also don't want anything to fall apart on me lol. What about a CDL for one of those, is that req.?? Do you know what that'll do to my insurance if anything?? Thanks for the help!!!
mcolectd
11-07-2007, 03:07 PM
I know according to plenty of people who have cdls including my dad, if you can get by without getting one then do it because its hell once you have one according to him. Its like driving on ice caus if you make one mistake your screwed. And you can't get tickets dropped, and after 3 you loose your liscense.
rbrettctd
11-07-2007, 05:08 PM
As long as the GVW rating on the truck is under 26k you dont need a cdl says my brother.
Jordan5687
11-07-2007, 06:35 PM
Ok, well that's good to know but I'm a bit over that. I did 29k# without truck wieght, so I'd be pushing close to like 36-37k#?? I'm looking at either getting a truck that will only haul my hay, and then gettin rid of big red lol, and down size. Still diesel probably 2wd.
Duallydog
11-07-2007, 07:15 PM
If you can get farm tags on it, then you can haul over 26K from what I've heard. But I'd suggest that if you can get say a truck that size registered with farm tags, and the over 26K applies, then still try to keep the truck itself under 26K.

Thats what you were at though, not the rating [coffee]. As long as you dont get weighed while overweight, but the truck is rated for under 26 then you are okay lol.l
Duallydog
11-07-2007, 08:16 PM
I'm saying as long as the truck by itself is under 26K and with farm tags you can get by with being over that with the load.
tweeder_51
11-08-2007, 10:09 AM
Jordan, how far from your home county will you be hauling?
Jordan5687
11-08-2007, 10:19 AM
I'll be hauling in the Counties surrounding Tarrant and Hood.
So I know I can get farm tags for my truck, but that doesn't help my tranny problem lol lol. Anyway, I was gonna look into a little bigger class of a truck and get farm tags on it, and I don't think I'll need a CDL for the size I'm looking or has been recommended. I will let ya'll know what's up, but I just dropped my truck off at the Mechanics and he's gonna redo the whole trany (still under waranty) and then it's probably gonna be up for sale once I get back from CO. Next week I'm gonna get things lined up and figured out as to what I need to get for another truck. So, anyone looking for a good rig let me know!!!

But hey, I should make a couple grand on the bike, and whatever I can trick someone into paying for the beasty ford. With that I can intercool ol blue and put a nice htb2 on her, or do some head work and a strong clutch so that I can get new turbos next summer....oops did I say turboSS????[whistle]

I noticed a lot of references to break downs, i guess they are used to it, break downs are a normal operating condition for powerstrokes. lol. And the only reason they cross lanes of traffic and back track several miles to a broken down dodge or chevy is that they are more amazed it's not a ford broken down. lol.

Well back on the cdl thing, I guess fort worth takes it pretty seriously. I was sitting on the side of the road just tightening up my chains today, and the fw highway code enforcement pulled up behind me for a "routine check", which turned out to be a routine bad day. Evidently a one ton ford with a 32ft flat bed requires a cdl cause the weight limit is over 26k. Got tickets left and right, one being no class a cdl
cbtumedic
11-12-2007, 07:03 PM
I think you need to fight that one, or at least talk to a lawyer, my understanding is if it's being used for farm/ranch or personal use no cdl req'd. But for commercial use, i.e. hot shotting or something along those lines req's cdl and dot numbers, but i could be wrong.

Jason, that cooler is working good!!! Been in the shop for the past week, tranny kinda shot again. So it's getting fixed then up for sale! You know of anyone looking please let me know. I'm going to be getting an International single axle day cab to do all my hauling, then another truck for personal use. It looks like I might be able to join the 3rd gen group Matt!!! How about that! Just am waiting on insurances right now. I'm picking up the paperwork tomorrow for the loan on the International. Located a few.
Travis - I'll let you know when I'm gonna head out to look at some of these trucks and would appreciate you coming along, I'm heading to Houston tomorrow for another jobsite and then to CO. It will be when I'm back probably as soon as I have the funds, hopefully mid Dec. first part of the year. I'm gonna try callin you tomorrow too, have some more questions for ya.

Great, then we're going to run low on the 2nd gens in our group. [laugh] You gonna do my special exhaust system if you get a 3rd?
Jordan5687
11-14-2007, 03:57 PM
You bet man! Even if I can't get a 3rd and have to get another 2nd it WILL be a standard and WILL do that exhaust!!! I'll need to know where you got that again and probably configure it a little different(same concept)(if you don't mind lol lol ;) ) Trying to see what tip to get, and how big a pipe lol. Not 6" lol, but at least a 6" tip. Yeah, I can't wait!!! Will be 2wd also.
Matt - I was gonna ask you....besides one more gear to shift, is there any major difference between a 5 and 6 speed??? That would make me want to get one or the other more, or wait to find one or the other??? Thanks man!
rbrettctd
11-14-2007, 04:43 PM
5speed is nv4500, 6 is nv5600. The gears on the 5600 are more closely spaced in the middle, same OD I believe. Then the 05.5 and up G56 has less overdrive, and a little different shift pattern. The 5600 is more expensive to rebuild and build up IIRC and is heavier.
Jordan5687
11-14-2007, 10:00 PM
Thanks Randy, so maybe the 5 speed would be good then?? The overdrive on a standard is different than an automatic isn't it? On an auto, you hit OD and it steps down a gear RPMs go up and speed decreases a bit depending on when you hit the OD button. Well I guess, if I don't see ya'll till the Jan. meet, I'll have 2 new trucks by then, at least one! Gonna get a nice stack for the International, and put my brand and ranch name on the side of it, put a tool box on it, and some other stuff. Hey, how do you think the International would sound with a straight piped DT466?? :) :) :)

11-14-2007, 10:55 PM
Jordan, stay with a nv5600 or 4500 the 5 speeds like my truck have a small problem with fifth gear nut backing off but other than that there close. the 6 speed does not have 1:1 gear ratio and the 5 speed does in forth. IMHO the five speeds are better for towing 6 for racing, if you are gonna do that autos the only way to go tho. Glad the coolers working for ya.
Randy, How much? Fer the ferd?
Matt I am still trying to find out for friday so .... I will let you know

11-15-2007, 09:19 AM
From what I've been seeing the 5th gear in the 6spd is 1:1. Anyways the autos final gear ratio is .69 (at least I'm for sure on the 48REs) the 5spds were .74 or .75 and the 6 spd is .73 (I'm positive on that one, I just hope my source was too) The problem with doing my exhaust on the 2nd gens is then you don't have the absolute quiet to start with.
rbrettctd
11-15-2007, 10:07 AM
Hey Jason yours is the nv4500. But yes it is a good tranny. the 5600 does have the 1:1 5th. I researched the crap out of these when doing my swap, and went cheap...shouldve gone 5600. But thats just cause I want unique. If youre gonna have a towing truck, then it really wont matter waht tranny you need in this one. The 5600 IMO is better for towing because of the closer spaced gears, but thats just my .02.
Im trying to get 2000 out of the Ford.

11-15-2007, 11:50 AM
Randy, you need to call mark, he might want the ford, also cody might be interested in it. As for the 5th gear nut backing off, that can be solved with a revised nut and a little "engineering" of the southern variety, also was only a problem on the 2nd gen's. Give me a call whenever jordan, i don't mind helping out a bit. As for straight piping it, i think a dt466 would probably sound pretty good with a straight pipe, most of the smoker tractors run a straight piped dt or one of the jd engines, but they are built up quite a bit. Also the biggest difference in the 5/6 speed third gen trucks is that the 5 speed was only available in '03 and early '04 with the standard output CTD, the 6 speeds are all HO's and all 04.5 up manual trans trucks have them.

Alright thanks guys. Got bad news today!!!
My mechanic called me and said that my tranny is toasted worse than when it had to be rebuilt the first time. So bad he said the place that built it might not honor the warranty on it. So I have to pay for another rebuild, gonna do it nothing special cause it's gonna go up for sale when I get it home from the shop. It sucks, cause I don't quite have the funds for a bigger truck just yet and I'm supposed to be hauling a lot of hay next week! Oh well, gonna have to wait I guess...so that's what's up here.

There's an place here in arlington that has a bunch of medium and heavy duty internations, i don't know exactly what they have or anything but if i get a chance i'll stop and see. Also if you have a place to store it and put up for sale, look at some of the box trucks that are on truck traders website, they seem to go for a decent price, and that opens up your options quite a bit. I'll do some checking into places around here and see what else i can find with used trucks close by. Are you looking for something with a flat bed, or will a c&c do for you (if you put a hitch on it that is.) Just will help to narrow down the field or expand it depending on what you want.

Hey Travis, I'll try to call and get the location of the place in Arlington, I might stop by there on Mon. Been real busy in Houston and haven't gotten a chance to call, or just pm me the location. Doesn't really matter either flatbed or not. I'll just use the 5th wheel on there or put on a gooseneck. also those box trucks are an interesting point, in some cases that would be good and others I really need to be able to get 300 bales to haul long ways to some feed stores and fill contracts and stuff. But if I could find a real long box truck, or one that's a single axle day cab(or in that range that comes with a box trailer I wouldn't mind looking into that, but don't want to spend more than $10k if I don't have to. I've already got a 40' straight deck trailer that is awesome for hauling tons of hay. Thanks for the help
Matt - good point, I need that quiet engine in the 3rd gens lol lol :) I'm still figuring out insurance on it though, might have to get either a single cab 3rd gen. for me to be able to afford the insurance on it...possibly that's what I'm waiting to hear back on.

Hey Randy, have you driven a truck with an FE clutch? The one I have ridden in takes off like a Peterbilt......shakes the whole rig bc it grabs so bad and its even harder to get boost off the line. You cant really slip the clutch to build boost on launch because it just GRABS and drops you back down to an idle. Im not trying to talk you out of it by any means but they are pretty aggressive for something you plan on using or pulling with IMHO.
