Not sure but could be a problem!
So a few days ago I installed a Trans temp gauge on the hot line of the transmission at the front of the truck. Today is the first time I have really had a chance to drive long enough to see what happens. When the TC is locked its at about 175 when unlocked I have seen it climb to around 188 (my gauge only goes from 170-200 not in between)it only goes there for a few seconds no more than 15. The rest of the time its less Id say around 180. is this too hot? I have also heard of flash temps in the hot line could that be what those 190 degree temps are?
The next thing that is happening I also have known about just haven稚 had time to fix is the t fitting at the sensor is leaking. I have not and will not have time to fix it till tomorrow. For the past few nights I have been adding atf before putting her to bed. But since I was only driving a few miles around 20 or less nothing has happened but today after driving about 30 maybe more I知 starting to notice a shudder when starting out and turning at the same time. Is this from the Trans fluid being low or could it be from the fact that I think the sensor is blocking the flow in the t fitting. When I installed it I did not tighten it too much because of it blocking the flow so I lonely tightened it to where it was only visible about シ of an inch in the t fitting after finding the leak I had to tighten the sensor so now I知 afraid its visible by more than a half of an inch. Blocking 70% or so of the hole. I知 thinking that when I put the Teflon tape on tomorrow to fix the leak I will add a lot and will not have to tighten it as much and it won稚 block the hole nearly as much. I知 hoping this fixes the shudder whether its from low fluid or the sensor blocking too much of the line. I知 also thinking that this may lower temps since the line is blocked so much. Hey its just a thought. What do you guys think am I on the right track or could these problems more importantly the shuddering be a much bigger problem like a trans going out?

Putting the sensor up front by the cooler will result in your ATF temps always being close to coolant temps since the fluid has already gone though the coolant to ATF cooler on the block.
Your shudder sounds like low fluid.

Low fluid or restricted line - pull the "T" adaptor from the line and sight thru it with the sensor installed - if you can see the temp sensor, it is blocking flow - make some arrangement such that the sensor does not protrude into the flow path thru the adaptor.
And, as Infidel was hinting at, a better location would be in the hot line back at the transmission - let's you see how hard the 48R is working

You say your shudder happens when starting out and turning at the same time. Is it possible your limited slip differential clutches are chattering and just need some friction modifier?

You can use dex 3 in these trannys.I was unsure of this until recently but many performance trans shops swear by it along with some lubeguard. My tranny temps never go over 150 ever.Although I do have a dd pan and my sensor is in it.I think with your sensor where it is youre not bad,but it does seem a little warm

A temp guage in the pan is useless. buy the time the fluid gets there it has alerady gone threw the cooler and 15ft of line and back into a large body of atf. Its kinda like the diff in pre and post turbo EGT's they can be over 300* cooler post turbo. You need it in the hot line right out of the TC which is were all the heat is made.
