So when is a good date for us NOT to be invited to Fairfield?
RJ
No Plans... Whenever is fine for me
I have the 4" inlet/outlet one off of the '05... I think I might've gotten a tankful of #2 through it before the carpet BOMBing...[redface]
Hey, I resemble that remark! [laugh]
I think this weather is PERFECT for Shiloh Ridge, personally! But im going ATVing at Chadwick (Mark Twain National Forest) in Missouri...SE of Springfield come Thanksgiving! So im pretty much open to whatever.
I will bring the WW to Shiloh Ridge if ya'll want to go there.[coffee] It's a blast!! (other good options include Red River Cycle trails 15miles N. of Muenster, TX or Lake Murray, OK just a few miles down the road from Rowland and not far from Ardmore Drags)
FYI....My schedule has changed officially...as of today. IM off on FS now instead of SS evenings. Gotta go back to work on Sunday afternoons now, by choice...instead of working thru Friday evening.
This is where we were.....................now please carry on![coffee]

I'm still open to Shiloh... It's whatever.. My place will be good if there are projects to be done... You know concrete, heat, air, light, most tools, etc...
Lake murray is pretty tame, borning riding to me...
Red river can be fun, but is crawling with dirt bikes! Can only stand them so long and you are forced to camp all right next to each other (oh wait Shiloh camping is the same way! :D) Camping at Rocky Ridge was much better (Almost got the Dodge and the goose stuck getting to my camping spot! Was great!)

MAN....you aint kidding.....I like Barnwell due to they shut the trails down at 10 PM......kills alot of the noise....
Shiloh.......you have dreams of 2 strokes bikes buzzing in your head all night.....with a jeep or two.....
TexasCTD
10-25-2007, 11:25 AM
Brian, I agree with you about Lake Murray. It can be a little boring/tame for riding.
Red River doesn't have good camping room, but I don't remember seeing a lot of dirt bikes when I have been. Although they lack camping room, they do have GOBS of trails. I am just saying the dirt bikes never bothered me there.
Shiloh's downfall for me....is it is a much further drive.[duhhh][laugh]
If we boondock camp......we can get away from the crowds at Shiloh though.

Thought they only allowed camping in their little fenced off area? One of my quads has bad memories of Shiloh... Snapped axle and thrashed bearings... Brake rotor was the only thing keeping the wheel upright!

Hmmmm.....You might be right. I have never camped in the back, but I know I saw some tents out there. I thought everybody stayed up front for water and electricity. We got that covered though. Guess we could call them to verify.
Is anybody else in the group open to going to an ATV off-road park for a GTG? IF you have a quad or something to wheel with.....all the better. If not I don't really see any difference in being there vs. being in Sedalia. Open field with whatever elements mother nature brings at the time...[laugh]

And there is bound to be a few (other) Cummins powered trucks at the park...and when they see 5-10 of our trucks...they will want to inquire.[coffee]

Im running Mach II's (105 HP) with stock everything except clutch and intake. NO EGT issues.....but with the smarty...it did get to 1200* empty.
65 HP injector is a drop in the bucket.....i woudl suggest going with at least 100 HP.......to save the change down the road.
The only issue you might have if you run JUST the injecors...is defueling with the auto when you get an overboost. You might need to get a boost fooler or an EZ module (Or Smarty) to help with that....
fade94
10-25-2007, 03:29 PM
Thanks Dan.
Speaking of the Smarty. Are the HP numbers it list's based on stock injectors? I was thinking of going with the Smarty in the future as well. Then bump up my turbo size.

Thanks Dan.

Man...i feel you could milk that stock turbo with a Smarty and 100 HP sticks with no issue. Because you could just turn the SW level down when pulling. AND i know pulling about 15,000 with my Mach II's was not and issue with EGT's and my HX-35. UNLESS you really wanted to get a turbo for future mods....i would just hold back and let the market develop some more and enjoy the quick spool from the HX....they are making improvements hand over fist these days in turbo design…..just look what has come out in the past year…..
Now if you go and get you a Comp or TST…..then I would start looking at turobs……
EDIT: AHHH...but you have a HY dont you......hum....that 9 CM housing is a tad on the tight side.....might see how it works.....
Wayne,
I ran an EZ (same hp as a Smarty) and 100 hp injectors for a yr and had no serious problems with the HY-35 turbo. Just add a manual boost controller to keep the turbo down to 32 psi max and you'll be ok.
Of course, a bigger turbo would make a big difference. Used HX-35 would be economical and effective...but a 62/12 would be a perfect match and would 'release' an additional 30 hp! That's what I got on the dyno...after upgrading turbos.:)

What is a manual boost controller and where can I get one?
Who makes the 62/12 and also, where can I get one?
THANKS !
Tyler suggested the 10th for a GTG at Brians. Works for me. Anyone else?
Seems we always have an install or two to do at the GTG's.... so an indoor area would be my first choice!

The site opened for me??? Try this... http://www.industrialinjection.com/id34.html
Have heard good things about HTT turbos, just don't know anyone, first hand, that has one.
Tyler has the PS62/12 and loves it for fast spool up (more important on an auto than a manual).
I'm sure either one would do you well. They are definately the top two out there now, IMO.

I'm out for the 10th, got a wedding in McKinney that day (not mine). Actually, the only weekend in Nov that would work for me would be the 17th.

Will it work with stock downpipe?
Converting from an HY-35 to and HX-35 is not just a 100% bolt up job (WELL as far as the turbo goes...yes....BUT....) The engine coolant lines under/around the exhaust manifold are different and due to the way the waistgate is positioned on the HX...it will interfere with the lines on the auto engines. I believe you will also need the hard coolant lines off a standard tranny engine or just use some heater hose to reroute them.
Ryan loves his HTB2 HT turbo....it has a 14cm housing i believe.....had it for about a year now.
The HX and HY use the same downpipe...so you are good there......

COOL!
My son has his last football game that Friday night. Will have to see what they have going on Saturday as far as end of season stuff.
Got some much needed cleanup done on my truck this weekend. Removed the stock filter and LP, reran the FASS hose and wires and trimmed accordingly, relocated my high idle box behind the dash and moved the LED and adjuster (POT) to the "A" pillar above my top gauge and put a knob on the adjuster.
Of course now I have to chase down a bad relay since I left the box engaged with my remote start box one of the relays has quite working.
Oh the drama... [laugh]
... What time is everyone gonna be there?
Usually, people show up as they can....starting around late afternoon Friday. Bring what you need for sitting/sleeping/clothing/drinking/ snacking. First time at Brian's so don't know how much we'll be roughing it...but plan on the worst. Most of us sleep in the bed of our trucks! Hook it up direct. An isolator will most likely fail over time and cause you more grief than it's worth. Properly installed, a mechanical gauge in the cab won't leak. Most folks here are running 'em that way.

I knew the Smarty could add pressure, but that is something I want to turn down while not "playing". I want that particular item to be adjustable. I don't recall hearing about alot of problems with the TS-MP8. Maybe I need to watch the threads about them a little closer.
I don't want to have to "unload"/"Reload" the Smarty to have or NOT have extra pressure. Luvnacummins I believe was around 570ish with just a Smarty/MP8/large single turbo.....while still running stock trans.[dummy]
He has twins now though.
I believe pressure in moderation won't hurt much. Running around with pressure all the time will. right?

Man...just drill it and dont worry about the shavings.....they will pass throught the turbo with out any issue due to its spinning at VERY low RPM at idle and the exhaust fins are very durable. I have never once had an issue. IF you really wanted to keep shavings out of the exhaust.....drill it with the truck running. Just ware some glasses.

OK....[laugh] gang! Brian once you get off the floor and Dan gets his computer screen wiped down.......
Needle valves may be simple to yall.....but i've never messed with one. Never bought one. Never used one. Like so many things on my truck....I understand concepts behind most things....but don't have any real world experience with it. So please pardon my ignorance.[duhhh]
And I know if I walked in to Napa and said...."Hey I need a Needle Valve". They are going to look at my like im from another planet. Or they will pull out their catalog and offer me 1000 choices and im not going to know which one to choose. So feel free to have a good laugh at my expense....that doesn't bother me....[laugh].....but please suggest what I need to get more specifically. Don't I need a certain size? Is this just going to go in the line somewhere (anywhere) between my Cp3 feed line and FP gauge.....maybe where the isolator is now?
Also you are suggesting to eliminate the isolator.....and put in the needle valve.....but what will stop the fuel from coming in the cab until I know something is wrong? Couldn't there literally be a gallon of fuel in there before I could shut off the truck or pop the hood and get the needle valve closed?
fade94

I too need to put in a needle valve.
TexasCTD- I believe you open the valve up just enough to read your full pressure. That will keep the full capacity of the line pumping into your truck. I have had mine running into the cab without an isolator from the beginning and check the connections in the cab often. I did have a slight leak where it connected to the main fuel line, but took care of that this past weekend.
As far as what size you need; since you already have an isolator, you shouldn't have any problem finding a valve that will accept the line coming into and out of the isolator to run to your gauge.
If you need a hand determining what you need, just holler at me. I work in McKinney and live in Melissa.
.....suggesting to eliminate the isolator.....and put in the needle valve.....but what will stop the fuel from coming in the cab....? Couldn't there literally be a gallon of fuel in there before I could shut off the truck or pop the hood and get the needle valve closed?
Won't work that way. If it starts to leak...you will smell it right away!
Needle valves are set almost completely shut off.... because there is no flow 'through' the gauge. This fact protects/prolongs the gauge and prevents a flood!
Suggestion to eliminate the isolator is because they never last anyway.
If uncertain, I would suggest waiting till the GTG and see how we have ours and what they look like!

I would get a needle valve that had 1/8" NPT on both sides.. I'm not a huge fan of the cheapys just because the handles dont lock down nice and snug... My needle valve requires a pretty good twist to make it move. That way I dont have to worry about the ever so slight cummins rattle moving it around... Get all your light bulbs and fuel line for the gauge (diesel compatible) and we can knock it out in a week

How many times have you heard of a fuel pressure gauge letting loose and leaking? We are not dealing with high pressure here so the tube and compression fittings are not being stressed very much. Unless it just brakes from vibration (Which can be prevented with a clean install), i dont think you will ever have an issue.
I would suggest a needle valve with compression fitting on either side for the 1/8" tube you are using for your gauge. That is what i have.
SO.......1/8" compression/Ferral(SP?) fittings on either end of the valve should do ya.......shoud look like this:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41AY6JOKpPL._AA280_.jpg BUT a 1/8" version......
OR if you wanted to just take the place of your isolator....(BUT I dont like to use NPT fitting if it can be prevented)....you can use something like this (This is for 5 of them....why price is soo high): http://www.calibex.com/Anderson-Brass-Needle-Valve-524734022/cb2/prices-html

Physically I am healing. However, my mental function is not up to par to say the least.
It just took me 6 days to do a small wiring project on my truck that should have taken me a few hours after work. I am (was) certified in electronics and DC circuitry. I can no longer remember anything. I spend all of my time now trying to remember how to test a circuit and end up blowing fuses anyway.
I must thank Bnold for his patience and help via PM for all the questions I had.
I am hoping I will get better mentally but let's face facts, it will be a year next month since I was hit on my motorcycle and I am just as bad now as I was then. I should find out Monday if there is any treatment for my brain to regain some of what I have lost.

I have the tubing and fittings for the fuel gauge. I am really uncomfortable with this needle valve thing. I STILL want to use my isolator.
I was talking to a guy from Geno's and he said that diesel will eventually EAT the back of the gauge and cause it to leak. He said they won't sell the FP gauges without them.
So, Brian, if you don't mind helping me with it..........let's just reinstall new tubing line back to the isolator with antifreeze and try it again. I know it may fail again eventually......but there really isn't an alternative that I see unless it's run on the outside like Mike does.

He wasn't trying to sell me anything. I already have the gauge and the isolator. I didn't buy anything from him and he had no benefit to answering my question.
I definately don't take his word over any of my friends here. But the part he said about the diesel eating the back of the gauge (over time) concerned me. Plus I already have the concerns about diesel in the cab.
Please don't be offended because I try to ask various people questions about subjects. It is just the way I learn. Nobody has ALL the answers about everything. Depending on the question, you can get 10 different answers from 10 different people.
The fact that the Geno's guy said what he did just added "some" weight to the fact that I was already concerned about running diesel in the cab. It is no slap to you or anybody here about how they run their gauges.

Ya I saw that as well... My problem is I don't trust a lot of the places selling Bio anymore... My bio-willy place is looking pretty shady and not near the traffic as would like to see... Also with the miles I'm putting on lately It's rare I get to a place that sells bio... I need/want something that I can throw in no matter where I'm filling.... I still like Bio the best and fill with it when I can get somewhere that has good traffic, but that hasn't happened in quite some time!! :) Not to mention the economy is slightly less .9 or 1.1 worse than regular if I remember correct from my mileage tracking days... With fuel in the 3.39 range that's starting to matter some! :D Filled up at a Loves in OK cause it was 28cents less than locally!!!
Good Points. BioWilly is either in recievership...or headed that way. They are not paying their bills and we put them on Cash only!
Local place here still sells it but I don't know where they get it?? I can still tell the difference at start up & idle... with it vs without. (Remember, the Cetane is a lot higher also.) Makes for easier starts and smoother idles.
No mileage loss with just 2%, as far as I can tell.

Got a guy here that makes his own that i am talking to. He has his own Fully auto $5000.00 Processor and is set up to sell with Road tax....get this....for $2.00 a gallon!!!! SO....as soon as Dan gets his truck back....(Because Jettas with a 300# 55 gallon drum in the back just looks stupid)....im getting a drum full. He is constantly testing his fuel and just talking to the guy....he knows what the heck he is doing. SO i figure ill start collecting oil and giving it to this dude...rather than me TRYING to figure out how to make good bio and shelling pumps and injectors.
Not to mention that the local Wal-Mart just started selling E-85 for 2.04 here locally....makes me want a flex fuel gasser now!!! What happened? When i bought my diesel, it was like 0.30 cheaper than low grade gas!!!! NOW its 0.20 more than PREM here!!!! (3.13/gal at "Wally World" last night). Freaking crazy.....BUT my car just came off the "F" mark after 160 miles!:D

Would be nice if its true....but i doubt that the state would default out of taxing a fuel like that.....Im guessing Texas? Texas is not a very friendly Bio state from some of the laws they were tring to pass last year....if they were all true.....rumors tend to fly on the net......

Can pull out the makita polisher for the big areas... just bring polish!
Actually started on it last Saturday (you and Jason did not even notice):(
It's one of those tasks that is easiest if done a piece at a time, IMO. Same way I wax my truck!
But would like to try your Makita...if a small unit. Had a big Dewalt that I picked up at a Saturday Tool Sale in local airport hanger. Just more trouble than it was worth.....prep wise. (Traded it for paint job on my tailgate)
Been looking at the smaller rotary units but never actually seen one, live.

Ya this is a bigger unit (normally I use the edge of the buffing wheel for smaller stuff... sometimes it works great others not at all! [laugh])... Use it mainly for waxing the boat, truck (ya that hasn't happened in a while)... Probably too large for what you need... I want one of those small rotarys for my rims, but they are too $$...

You need to find one of the BCS boys to work on that polish job. They're the ones that spent many, many hours with a Dremel polishing an intake elbow. Polishing something that is already mostly shiny should be a breeze and would only cost you a few beers. [laugh]

Hopefully I'll get most of the packing done this weekend, then I will have some free time next weekend to possibly make it to the dyno in Burleson. Then I'm off the week of Thanksgiving, which is when I'm actually going to move, then head home to Giddings.

Well it was a small, but dedicated group for this meet. For those that missed it[dummy][dummy], you did indeed miss some very SPECIAL treats!!!!!!!
I called Brian on the way down and offered to stop and pick up some fast food for the group. He mentioned Rowland was already there....and that if we wanted we could just meet at Gilberto's Mexican Restaurant on the corner of I45 in Fairfield. I said sure. Then coincidently, I drove up behind Rob about 2 miles north of Fairfield. So the 4 of us join up to eat....and Brian's Parents and grandfather show up too. Before we knew what happened, and could politely decline, they bought the whole meal! Very unexpected and unnecessary! Brian Please give them a HUGE BIG THANK YOU FROM US![guitar][director]
And if that wasn't enough.........later in the evening we had an awesome steak dinner/mashed Taters, green beans, and bread! Again Brian's parents and grandfather really just went above and beyond. That had to be one of the best meals I have had in LONG LONG time! Brian.........again please give them a 2nd HUGE THANK YOU FROM US!![roll][coffee]
The shop at the loc was very nice....had every imagineable tool and Diesel truck bomber could need.
Rob thanks letting me take the Polaris 800 for spin! Nice bike.
Brian.....and a BIG BIG THANK YOU to YOU!!!! My gauges are all working great. I can't really tell to much to report on the MP-8 yet...but no problems whatsoever coming home. I am definately looking forward to the Dyno Day next Saturday to see what happens.[roll]
I got my Black headlights and smoke 3rd brake light installed....in addition to the MP-8. I think the whole group gave them a thumbs up.
Rob got his ATVs serviced. Rowland and Brian got their truck's valves adjusted. Rowland also go some minor surgery done to his valve cover to make it clear some bolts better........and I think changed his diff fluids. Not sure what else was done.
There will be a few pics forthcoming.[laugh]

RJs rear diff oil changed, valves checked and adjusted, bumper polished, TST harness removal, Adrenaline beta install

Robert got new headlights and a new third brake light in, MP8 installed (not without issues! :)), some wiring clean up, gauge lights, gay fuel pressure isolator thingy! :D
Me got my 35s back on (man those look so so much better), ran a couple wires for some sensors, adjusted valves... ya all 12 were way out of spec to be expected with a valve job...
Had a few good meals and some good campfire time
Hope we can do it again sometime really enjoyed having you guys down! :D
Going to be hard to beat! The bar has definately been lifted for GTG's :D.
Brian...Thanks you for offering to have us there. Almost wish it had been cold to take full advantage!

I went with an hts trans. Suncoast converter, bd sfi flexplate , billet input and output...
I guess I like it, dont know what they are supposed to feel like. When it shifts it feels like someone kicked you in the buttocks!!!!
But smooth as glass at Full Throttle ...right?
Interesting combo?? Love to hear about the whys on each piece!
That tranny ought to be worth a 100 hp on the dyno. :)

Anyone coming to the Dyno tomorrow that has a boost elbow they aren't using??
I need one.
Brian, you threw one at me in Oscar's Shop and I just put it on the counter. Still have it?

Wow. What an event(s). "Someone" broke the dyno at the first place.[guitar]. Buck kills his gray truck
Then we all truck over to another place. Unless you went for lunch and came back to find the place empty. [laugh]
Then Buck kills his red truck. Now THAT was impressive. Still looking for a place to upload the pics and video too since they are high in size. But I'll try to at least get the red truck turbo pic on here..

I never even saw the guy jump in to turn the nitrous off. I bet if you put it on Youtube and title it as fire breathing diesel it would be an instant hit.

Robert re-ran on the stingy dyno and laid down 47X, and Alex's name is ALDO.
Thanks for all the AV content, Wayne!

Thanks Wayne/Mike. Good #'s by all.....especially Rob. Now I know why he's looking of the new SB.
Robert- 506 on non Dynojet
Justin- 448
Brian- 578.... w/ NOS
RJ- 554.... #2 only (actually 554.75; I'm calling it 555)!
Aldo (Friend of Mike L)- 463
Charlie....that's Robert...not Hotdram!
Made a few other corrections just for complete disclosure :D...... (no offense Wayne).
This is definitely the stingiest Dynojet I've ever seen! 12-15% lower for the guys that ran on both dynos!
Did Justin run after I left??

I don't want anyone to misunderstand!
I really don't mind getting knocked off the center podium (Top Dog) by Brian, even if that podium is just a 2x4 piece of wood in Sedalia.
Really, I don't!....................... [verymad]

No Robert made 469 I believe on the speedtek dyno, which the rest of us dynoed on... apples to apples...
if your claiming 555 then mine is 579!! 530 on level 5 of 10 with no nitrous... should have ran level 7 or 8 with no juice for a better fuel only number!

Hey put that piece of wood back in the fire where it belongs!! [nonono]
If you did 530 hp on #5, and I did 542 on #6, then we are as close as we originally thought we might be!
Guess I missed that when I looked at original #'s.
But then why so different (31 hp) on #10?? Maybe an HO PMC thing?
Anyway...it's your 2x4. Stick it anywhere you want. :)

My best number at speedtek 478.17 hp.
FWIW.....on Bob Davies dyno last Feb. my truck made 466, smarty only on 9. Then at HPP in lewisville in April it made 467.
My first run on the Dynocom in Burleson......with MP-8 turned all the way down...my baseline run was 465. (VERY VERY CLOSE TO PREVIOUS RUNS!)
2nd run was 506.7 with MP-8 on 50 percent.
Didn't get to make a 3rd run......as it broke. (some said I made toooo much hp[laugh])
I was first at Speedtek to run when we moved the show up there. Baseline run with MP-8 off was 447.87. Best 478.17
SO was the Dynocom easy or Speedtek Stingy?? Personally...[laugh], I like the dynocom..[duhhh]

Bobs portable dyonjet 502, lewisville dynojet 504, Speedtek 460... hmmmm....
I'd like dynocom too and maybe that is where you are (likely), but for comparisons sake we all need to be tested on the same one... I'm sure you are 500+ and I'm sure I'm 620-630ish...

Kinda my thoughts, but I guess we wont know til the next one... did you see my dyno sheet for my #10? it was very weird... I really think it has to do with how we started our runs... really do...

Ok well in that case, call it 478 for me then. I really don't consider myself in the same league with you and RJ. I was just thrilled to see something above 500...[laugh]
Hopefully we can get another dyno day going soon and get a complete day in for everybody on the same machine.

Not happening! "JUST SAY NO" is my motto.
It would take a second CTD in my garage before I start using drugs.... because a little bit is not enough....and a lot is to close to the edge... for me!
If CTD's were meant to use drugs...Old Man CumminGs would have put a NOS port on the intake! :D
But I have been kind of looking on AutoTrader.com for another, nice, low mileage 02.

ummmm CumminGs didn't tap your manifold for Methonal now did he?? and I'm pretty sure much care was taken to make sure water didn't end up inside the combustion chamber! :D
Yeah....OK.
I don't suppose you'd buy the argument that a little alcohol is medicinal... or only for cooling?:)
Actually that's how it started( cooling)...in my big single turbo days!
Just having some fun witcha! Actually a little envious!
