Non-wipping windshield wippers!

I had this trouble with this last year and I barely got through the rainy season without ripping the drivers side windshield wipper off! This year I am really tired of it and I was wondering if any of you guys have delt with this issue in any productive way? When going down the highway that wipper wont stay in contact with the window thus it doesnt wipe. The passenger side doesnt have this problem. Not sure why? I tried to find another wipper design but no luck. I guess they dont make a slim wipper anymore and I really dont want to have to put those stupid gold or chrome plastic air foils on there! Isnt there any way to fix this without jerry rigging something stupid or eventually breaking something? Thanks for any help. This really is a safety issue too since I cant see half the time going down the road in the rain.

I think Pappyman has nailed it. Most of the time wiper arms are composed of different types of metals that are NOT compatable with eachother, or more specifically, they use steel and some aluminum alloy, which will corrode, but not rust....I had to take mine off, as it was doing the same thing.....pivot point is a rivit of unknown material, soaked it with WD-40, and worked it back and forth like a madman for about 20 minutes and it loosened up nicely.

I think i am having the same problem as you. Mine doesnt seem to wipe good right at eye level in front of the driver (out of all places). It has been like this since the truck had 40 miles on it and dealer replaced the wipers at the first oil change--worked, but didnt last very long at all. I am looking at getting new wipers (not just the blade) and hopefully that will do the trick; i just have to figure out what brand/type.

Same problem here, a bad streak about 3" wide right at eye level and of course on the drivers side... new blades helped but not much... the one thing i did do that helps a bit was to but a bit more bend on the wiper arm to compensate for the lack of pressure applied at the pivot point. Just so much fun at 65 cranking your neck down so you can see under that streak of salty crap.

On a personal note I'd recomend staying away from the 'triple edge' blades, after two new sets there is something not quite right, not sure if its the length of the blade or the contour of the glass or what, but they don't seem to work well on my rig, they're great on the Jeep though. Going back to the Aanco extreme weather type this weekend.

Something I noticed just a few weeks ago while working on a friend's truck was that my '95's wiper arms have a "wing" on them that catches the air pushing the arm harder against the window, his '97 didn't. Both are stock arms.
Seems like it could make a difference, I've never had trouble with my wipers staying on the window.

I'm tired of the wipers on my Ram being loud as all get out. They seem to clear the water off pretty well (because I keep the inserts replaced often), but they're loud as crap! Sounds like the motor is a little over zealous. Anybody else notice this on their truck?

Mine are quiet, but the driver side doesn't wipe as well as the passenger side. I am convinced it is the spring.

Here is the fix! I had the same problem, it is due to the angle of the windshield and the side that the wipers are mounted on. You may not have this in the states but I have found this little gadget up here, it is a sping with a hooking end on each end. It hooks under the wiper arm before the pivot and then runs up the arm for about 3" then hooks over the top of your wiper arm. They cost about $13.00 US and are sold as a pair. I have used these on other rig's before and they work great! I commute at 80mph and have yet to have the wiper get sucked off the windshield during rain or snow! Cheap fix and you can't even see them when installed.

Found the box! They are called "SURE WIPE".

i also used the sure-wipes, had them on my kenworth, but the answer is Rain-X. won't even need wipers other than some low speed city driving.

The only problem with the extra springs I have run into was on a Freightliner they caused accelerated wear on the bushing where the arm mounts. I mean like wore out bad in about two months. I tried Rain-X on the same truck and had one heck of a time trying to see at night with street lights around. Best fix I have found is to replace the arms themselves with new ones.

I'll second the vote for Rain-X. I've got it on mine and I can run down the road at night in a moderate rain and see perfectly. I wouldn't drive without it.

Also, as was stated earlier, put a little extra bend in the wiper arm. Mine originally had trouble staying on the glass. After bending the arm a little more, they stay put and clean the glass nicely now.

Thanks for all the advise. I'll check the spring tension first then try some rain-x.

Infidel hit it right. The little scoop on the back of the wiper. The 96 of mine came with it and finally after 6 years I had to replace um. No problem before, problems now. That little "wing" held the wiper on the windshield at speed. Now they just bounce around. A real bummer.

I'll check out the '96's wippers BUT after looking for wippers in the Trico catalog, I saw that other years came with different length blades.
