Haven't had it long and it runs good other than a little tranny slip under hard accel in 2nd. It is noisier (the engine) than my freinds 04 cummins sounds like my older powerstroke diesel at an idle really considerably louder than other simular trucks at idle and while running, until i push it a little and it gets quiet immediatly, like night and day very suddenly diesel noise goes away and then when i get out of it its noisy again. I know its not knocking and it really runs great has 170,000 miles, I can see the motor has been out of it but dont know why has had lift pump upgrade to in the tank.???????????? want it to be quiet wondering if pump timing is off or if that is even possible it shows signs that the pump has been replaced.

Check the valve lash. Mine was REALY noisey and low on power after dealer installed new sticks. They said you don't have to reset valve train after the install.......right . I had a couple exhaust close to 45 not 20 and they didnt even get the torque right on the rocker studs. After resetting them it was WAY quieter and power was back.
