Noise Levels

I am about to buy a Cummins 2500 and I love the sound of a real diesel.

What is the difference in noise level between an 01 to an 02 and an 02 to a 03?

Feedback Appreciated.

The 98.5-02 24 valve make the most diesel (rattle) noise and from 03 -on got much quieter . If you jump out of a 02 or older and into the 03 you would not even know it was running =very quiet.

If you like the sound, then an '02 or newer 24V is great for running around town. I find that the sounds gets old on long highway trips when a 3rd gen is much nicer.

The in cab noise in mine is not bad, but roll the window down(while parked) and wow. Most cars at a light will roll up their windows

You will have a hard time at drive thru's too with a 98.5 to 02 24 valve. Most times I get asked to shut mine off so they can hear the order.

It all depends on if you leave the exhaust stock. I thought my 04 straight piped is louder than my 00 straight piped. But, the 00 sounds a lot better all the way around.
