NO WARRANTY FOR LIFT PUMPS

Took the truck in for low pressure readings, turn key on 10psi, then pressure falls to 0, start truck, idle 2psi, 0psi cruise. Dealer complied with flow check per star and they were able to get 48 ounces of fuel when key is turned on, 45 is the min. they no longer go by pressure readings. so NO WARRANTY PER DODGE STAR HOT LINE.

Re:NO WARRANTY FOR LIFT PUMPS

That's why when mine started giving low pressures, I just went to Cummins and bought my own pump.
Took about 45 minutes to install it, and presto,........15psi @ idle.

Re:NO WARRANTY FOR LIFT PUMPS

Yes i could do the same thing but i should not have to with only 33,000 miles, the thing that gets me is they do not care. What happened to 8psi min. at w.o.t dodge said they were bad and changed them, now they have this flow check, my makes 0psi so how do i have flow.

Re:NO WARRANTY FOR LIFT PUMPS

So now how much damage is this going to cause the vp-44, because i think i will just keep running the truck and not change the lift pump and make dodge and the great warranty they provide replace the vp-44 and i guess then they will throw on a new lift pump at that time to. So how long do you guy's think the vp-44 is going to last. >

My first one went bad at 41000 the second one at 65000. Landers dodge replaced both on warrenty. ;D they were super nice, But i think they know how mad you are when parts are going out on a new truck. >

Re:NO WARRANTY FOR LIFT PUMPS

With my luck, it would fail two days after the warranty expired. :'(

Re:NO WARRANTY FOR LIFT PUMPS

The dealer said they would like to change the pump, they know it's weak but when they send it back to STAR and they check it and it checks within spec. no matter if it is at the bottom of the scale they will charge back the dealer.

Re:NO WARRANTY FOR LIFT PUMPS

It depends on the dealer. I just had mine replaced at 29K. The dealer made the decision based on my FP gauge readings alone. They didn't even do the flow test.

Re:NO WARRANTY FOR LIFT PUMPS

Last summer when mine went out at 16K, I had one service manager claim that the VP44 -never- fails because of a bad lift pump, and he had TSB's to prove it. (When I asked to see them, he said there was a DC confidentiality policy. : )

But another service manager at another dealer called up the regional DC rep, and then gave me a new pump for free, on the condition that I do the installation myself. She said the charge-back risk for the dealer had to do with labor.
