is it black smoking at all? if not, check the AFC on the injection pump... either a broken signal line from the manifold to the AFC or a torn AFC diaphragm.

if it's black smoking, look for leaks at the intercooler boots

Not sure on the fuel filter but it looks pretty new, I dont think it is a filter issue as it was a sudden and drastic change. Could someone tell me exactly what I am looking for or how to test it as far as the afc goes. I am a diesel newbie, but have plenty of mechanical experience.
Thanks
Herb

that would just cause higher boost... he's suffering from a lack of fuel. AFC isn't able to compress the spring and allow the lever arm to travel forward.

On the early 94's the wastegate line starts at the AFC connection. So its possible the diaphram ruptured and is dumping the boost signal pressure. On my 95 w/g line starts on compressor housing.

my vote

My vote is either fuel filter plugged, or fuel gelled if temp is low, got down to 20 degrees here last night. Wastegate is also a real possible problem. Good luck and let us know what it was...
