No power going up hills

[glow=red,2,300][/glow]
Can anyone help me with my 99 Dodge 3500 4x4 diesel? I have replaced almost everything on this truck. But on & off I`m having trouble going up hills with my trailer & with out it. I will be going along fine then no power my RPM`s go down with my pedal to the floor & if I let up then step on it again sometimes it responds, also driving on flat freeway it will just lose power and stay at about 40 mph then take off. Also if my fuel is lower than 1/2 a tank its bad too!! I had my fuel filter changed around 4,000 miles ago. ???

Re:No power going up hills

I'm having similar problems with my 01, Dealer has already replaced my transfer pump. Didn't do squat,SSDD. It's pulling the codes p1693 and p0216. It's in the shop as I write this, so I'll let you know what becomes of the situation.
My symptoms are: Driving steady at 70-75, feels like someone turns the key off, no pedal, nothing--engine running--Push in clutch idle for a second--then wham all the power and acceleration I want until I ease up just a bit, then SSDD. ???

Re:No power going up hills

Yah, best thing to do is don`t buy a dodge!!! I had a 98 and the engine blew up at 8,500 then the trans went out after they had my truck for 3 weeks. All I can say is the service guys ran from me when they saw me again. So I didn`t hit my head hard enough and let them buy the 98 back and gave me a 99. But tell me what bs they tell you please. >

Re:No power going up hills

I've got the exact same prob with my '01, loss of power, etc.
Is yours accompanied by lots of blue smoke?
I'm not pulling the 0216 code, only 1693. The more I read about this, the more it sounds like an injection pump. I'm alos hearing horror stories about dealers voiding the warrany if you don't have proof of regular filter changes. That sounds like such b.s. I hope it's not true.
By the way, I had not changed my fuel filter for a long time when mine started to die. I changed it, had to crack some injectors in the process (probably unrelated), and the prob persists.

Re:No power going up hills

no blue smoke that I'm aware of, I tried the reset proceedure on the APPS, b4 that I was gettting code 1691, which is also an injection pump calibration error. Incidently, the transfer pump was replaced last week. Now the 1693 code is there.

PS You guys do a phenominal job at this place. I thought this engine and drive train were pretty much bullet proof. In the past week, I've learned more about my CTD than anywhere else...Keep it up

Re:No power going up hills

>Thanks for all the info, yah I think it`s my pump too, just replaced it a year ago alone with my torque converter & my trans. I wrote a check for 5,000. No good. I`m on my way right now to have my fuel filter changed. Can repair places check for the codes you have been talking about? ;D

Re:No power going up hills

My truck is doing the same thing. I do not fault Dodge as much as I fault Cummins for having this problem that they have not admited to or made good on it. Still, Dodge should stand up for its customers. I certainly will not be buying another Dodge diesel after having the problems I have had that I am still working on fixing. I will take my VP44 apart before I give in and buy a rebuilt one. What do I have to loose? I have to see for myself what actually fails.

Re:No power going up hills

:The repair place just called and they replaced my filter but they said my prob. is my transfer pump is not working at all. So I guess my fuel pump has been doing all the work Which is no good because I just replaced it a year ago and I know the part was 1,200.00. I just want this truck to get fixed so I can drive it into the Ford dealership. Have you ever heard of www.dodgesucks.com He Hee

Re:No power going up hills

I just dropped my truck off at the dealer for this problem. Lose of power and then snaps back. The code was P0216 *Injection pump timing failure*. They pulled the same code and I am getting a new pump installed tomarrow. The Injection pump and the Lift pump are covered under your 100K cummins warrenty.

Re:No power going up hills

:Of course I will!! :P ( get the powerstroke I mean ) I don`t know how long my transfer pump hasn`t been working but I`m pretty sure it has been a while...Is that why my truck would run fine but right when my gas tank was lower than 1/2 it would start running bad...no power...Filling up my tank worked.. ;D Anyway I hope thats all thats going on with it!!!Anyone know if I would be better off with the 3.73 rear end on the 04 F-350 diesel 4x4 or should I go with the 4.10??????? Thanks T

Re:No power going up hills

seems to be a common problem....if its under the 100k warranty take it to the dealer... seems to be the lift pump...

Re:No power going up hills

??? :'( So I just got my truck back today and had to drive 3 hours to pick up my trailer where I had to leave it because of my truck... > And by the way they did replace my transfer pump, coming home it did the same crap going up this hill I was going 50 then 2 sec.s later I`m at 20 mph and my truck not responding at all.....I got home but what the hell else could it be it did have more power when it felt like it, and my mpg went from 13.0 to 14.3 I was happy about that ;D so I`ll see if I get my horses to the show and back today ....Any one else with this same prob? and what did you do it has 150,000 miles on it so I can`t yell at the dealer.... :-X >That sucks
