i just bought a 1998 dct 12 valve with 280,000 miles and the oil pressure gauge will drop to zero and the check gauges light pops on. it does this when i am driving at normal speeds. i hope this is just the gauge and not the oil pump. has anyone else had similar problems? any help would be appreciated.

Call Jim Jessup 812-873-7618 (he is a retired Cummins Tech Center guy) who knows the 12v better than his own children. He works on these trucks daily all year long.

Mine had the same problems, i wiggled the wires around the oil press sender connection, and it stopped. It did it mostly on washboards and railroads X-ngs...hopefully that helps.

Behind the power steering pump in the side of the block.Look for the wires running to it.

No oil pressure

I have the same loss of oil pressure problem, it happens on panic stops, bumpy road and slowing to a stop. My problem has been on going since the truck was new ( 98 12 valve Ram 2500) Dodge told me there was nothing wrong with the thing and replaced the pressure sender. I have installed a direct reading guage and it reads the pressure drop also. I am about to change oil pick up tube in the pan cause I heard somewhere they have a problem with cracks. If that don't work I guess I will go after the relief valve then the oil pump. Any suggestions out there??
Thanks
Jack
