No oil Pressure
I am new to this forum and had a question. I just purchased a 1997 Dodge 3500 dually ext cab with the Cummins diesel. I purchased this truck not running with no oil pressure and 288,000 miles.
Checking with a manual gauge it had no oil pressure. I then removed the oil pump checked all the clearances and everythying checked out OK. I then hooked up an air hose to the oil journal going to the oil pickup tube going to the oil pan. I added air pressure and heard the oil bubbling in the pan. I assumed that there was no blockage and the oil pickup tube was still attached. I then put everything back together fired it up let it run for 5 minutes as it had 40 PSI of oil pressure.
A few hours latter I fired it up again and no oil pressure I am stumped.
Could I have temporarialy blown some sludge out of the way with the air?
Could the pickup tube be loose and just work now and then????
I am getting ready to pull the pan to see what is going on any sugestions??
Thanks Kerry

My first thought would be a blockage that was blown off with the compressed air. Then as the engine ran it picked up whatever was blocking it before. Just a thought. If it were me I would probably pull the pan and have a look.
Good luck
