I have a 06 truck auto trans and get around 17 to 18 mpg one of my frends has a 04 his truck wount get over 13 to 14 mpg what could be wrong hith his truck it has been to dodge they cant find anything wrong

Could be different gearing (e.g. 4.10 vs 3.73) in the rear. Probably the problem is attached to the ankle of his right leg. Driving style has a lot to do with the miles per gallon a driver sees.

Switch trucks for a few tank fulls and see what happens.

same gear i have drove both trucks i get the same 13 to 14 he drives mine gets 17 to 18 it is something in the truck

Are you using the overhead mpg readout as the basis of your comparison? If so, there may be some inaccuracy in that reading. Does one truck have bigger tires? Have you compared hand-calculated mpg figures?

Just throwing stuff out here. Obviously, it could be a lot of things.

the only things different his ts 2 wheel drive mine is 4 wheel drive and the year so the 2 wheel should get beter then the 4 wheel drive ?

Yes, from most reports I've read, two wheel drive typically gets 2-3 mpg better than 4-wheel drive.

Hand calculate a few tanks, see what you get. The overhead liar is usually off anywhere from 2-7 MPG...

i am not using the over head and a 2 wheel drive shoud get beter then a 4wheel drive so why is it geting 4 to 5 mpg less then a 4 wheel

Could be any number of things.

Is he using the overhead?

Bad injector?

Driving habits?

Idle time?

Someone's stealing his fuel?

Codes?
