I don't have the full history on this truck as I have only had it for about 8 months.
Here is what I know. It had a Crank Position Sensor put in, and a new injection pump about a year ago.

Now for my problem.
About 2-3 weeks back the truck started getting hard to start hot. I have done as much reading as I can stand on hot hard start. I assumed it was from to high of a fuel pressure reading at start up. I see about 18-20psi. I started cycling so that the FP gauge went to zero then cranking, would start perfect every time , till a few hours ago. Fuel pressure never drops below 12 when running even under heavy load, generally 15-18 psi. When the problem occurred today the truck was spinning over and got slower and slower. It finally quit spinning over. I pull the batteries take them over to AutoZone for a test expecting to get new batteries. They test out OK? I go back put them back in the truck and it will not turn over when I hit the ignition. I can hear the relays click, the fuel pump works, but the starter does nothing as though there is not enough battery power? I crawled under the truck and the starter was warm but so was every thing else. I am letting it sit over night and will go try getting it started tomorrow. Does any one have any thoughts, or know some one to take it to in the Chattanooga Tennessee area?

Maybe the starter itself has stopped, or even seen then starter gear get stuck jammed on the flywheel. I have also seen a piece of metal from ? I dont know where get stuck between the starter gear and flywheel.

If its standard you can try to pull start it. But you didnt post wether it was manual or auto. I dont want to tell you another thing it "Could be" If you were having an issue with TOO MUCH FUEL PRESSURE. It is possible that you have a cylinder full of fuel and are hydro locked. I would check your oil and back sure that you dont have an "extra" in the pan....

Will a starter just quit like that?
I will check the oil, but prefer to think the starter or something has gone south .

You can guess at it. Replace solenoid contacts or starter. OR get out the volt meter & do some simple testing. Measure battery voltage across the terminals. Should be 12.6 if fully charged. Measure battery voltage at big cable on solenoid. Should = battery voltage. Next, measure voltage on small terminal on the solenoid with key to start. Should = battery voltage & engine should crank. Any garage can change a starter. I'd prefer to keep your nice OEM starter & simply replace the contacts & plunger. When my contacts were bad, I connected a wire to the solenoid trigger wire by way of an alligator clip. Touching the other end to the + terminal of the batt post cranked the starter. That got me by until contacts arrived in the mail. Google Ram on crank for details.

Thanks guys, I ended up replacing the starter. I had voltage across every thing that needed it the contacts were bad. The starter had been off before and was not in good shape, wires exposed etc. It also had that nice electrical burnt smell, so I put a new one on $$$$ ouch, but it is back on the road.
