i was working on a truck today (2000 24v 5spd stock) hes been having trouble with loosing his tach and loosing power and the check engine light will come on. it even shut off on him once. i hooked our snap on scanner up to it and it doesnt even recognize theres a truck there. i dont thing i got power to the obd 2 plug. also, its popping the IOD fuse as soon as you put a new one in. i think thats where im losing power to the data link. what would be popping that fuse?

a short circuit try unplugging the cig lighter and replacing the fuse

k will do. is that fused seperately or does it run off the iod fuse? that sounds like a real good idea cuz i know he had been messing around with the wiring on the cig lighter.

sorry for the late reply. the obd port is powered by the iod/ cig lighter fuse in all vehicles.

turns out it was a short somewhere behind the cd player because the guy doesnt know what crimp connectors are and jsut twisted all his wires together. fixed that and had communication. crank sensor was gone.
