Same thing happened to me, 2001 HO.

I've had this water leak that drips on the driver side by my left foot every time it rains and when the truck gets washed. I washed my truck, then that night we a had a freeze. When I started the truck the next morning, no guages. Thinking the water/freeze combination may be the problem, possibly infecting the electrical stuff under and around the dash, I drove the truck with the heater on full. After 15 minutes of driving, I started to get my guages coming on intermittently, then they stayed on for the rest of the drive. Haven't had a problem since, but I still have to get around to fixing my leak.

Had the same problem with mine. Turned out to be a bad instrument cluster. I could reset it by unplugging the connector feeding the dash, but it started happening so frequently I had to go get it fixed. Not a cheap item...

The "bus" is the circuit that the modules use to communicate with one another. Causes for no bus can be a short, or a problem in any of the modules using the bus. Some that come to mind are: air bag (acm), anti lock (abs), central timer (ctm), gauges (cluster), overhead (otis), drive train control (jtec), engine (ecm). Takes a good bit of time to find probs like these some times.

Sad to say, that's how mine went. It was an intermittent problem at first. Over about 3 weeks it got progressively worse, till it was almost a full time problem. I could clean and grease the plugs, but it would come back. It turned out to be a bad instrument cluster that had an internal short somewhere.

I used dialectric grease, some grease they gave me for light bulbs. How do I go about removing and cleaning the gauge cluster?

It isn't hard just pull off the dash cover and you'll see some screw that hold it in place. Just start taking out screws and you'll have it free. When you get the cluster loose becarful not to rip the wire out the back,,,they were tight on mine... All in all it is very easy
good luck

So I just unhook the wires are put grease on them also? And I jsut remembered that when it did it the first time I was useing the washer fluid, I am sure that wasn't any water in the pcm or ecm connections. I will try the dash tonight.
thanks dave

I took the dash out and added grease to connections. It could have been there because the dash just pushes into the connectors, would be easy to wiggle around and get a bad connection. Check engine light went off, will see if it stays off though. Crossing my fingers.
