No Boost-No Power

Was on the way home from with the camper in tow last Monday when heard a rattle under the hood and lost all boost pressure and truck had no power to pull. Babied the truck and camper about 20 miles to the next exit and dropped the camper. Was able to get the truck the rest of the way home. Took the truck to the dealer and they checked it and told me it needed a new boost senser. Well they put the new boost senser on and they called and said it did not fix it. Now they have a call into the factory to find out what to do next. Any thoughts from anyone? I wish they would actually take something apart and look at it instead of just reading the codes. I am thinking something went in the turbo.

Checked the hoses did not see any leaks. I would hope that the dealer would check that also. Pretty sure it is non-plastic intercooler.

So, not a very happy camper right now. Dealer finally tells me the intercooler blew out (2005 POS plastic one). Not covered under warrenty. Over $700.00 for the intercooler. Found one on-line for $522.00. Told the dealer to shove it. I will buy off the internet and replace in the driveway. Any tips for the install would be a help. Oh yeah, firing off an e-mail to Dodge to express my displeasure.

intercooler is easy to change. don't need to remove bumper or discharge the AC. have a helper hold the condensor out of the way. 2 bolts hold the cooler in plus the 11mm (deep well socket) to remove the clamps on the boots.

not to be a stickler but the intercooler is not part of the engine so it would not be covered under any engine warranty. if you have an extended warranty, there is a list of non covered items in your contract that was signed when purchasing the contract. unfortunatley the intercooler is not even part of the powertrain coverage the factory offered because its not a lubricated part (touching oil with rotating parts).

oh and- i would hope the dealer would work with you since they misdiagnosed it to begin with and did not follow basic trouble shooting steps for a low boost, low power condition.

I thought there was either a TSB or recall for the plastic capped intercoolers for the '05 .....

Thumbs up

Well after some e-mails to some Dodge exec's they have agreed to repair my truck at a much lower cost to me that originally quoted. Persistence paid off.

Keep your eyes open in the classifieds. There are plenty of take out intercoolers available and cheaply priced. However, I highly doubt you will end up with another plastic tanked one since dodge has been replacing them with steel tanked ones.
