What next?

I'm trying to get a handle on a friends rig and what is needed to take it to the next level? Obviously a turbo, I am also curious if his combo of electronics are hurting him?

Specs are as follows: 07' 5.9, billet auto (needs flex-plate), stock turbo, smarty, TS MP8, electronic boost fooler, modified CP3 & rail by floor-it, fass, aftermarket intake horn, 4" tbe and afe intake.

Where would you place this setup on a dyno as is and what do you think it's capable of with the right turbo? Any recommendations on smarty settings? I'm also thinking the boost fooler is NOT needed.

TIA,
Eric

If you ran a 64/71/13 you should see 580-600 hp and close to 1100 tqe....as well I would estimate 12.5 in the 1/4 at sea level...

As far as smarty settings I assume you mean REVO TNT? YOu will need to be on the dyno and find the right settings there. If he doesn't have a rail pressure gauge it will be tough.

Current turbo (stock) I would estimate 520-530 hp.....

I'd think with the right combo of parameters on the Smarty and help from the mp-8 you can reach 550, but the turbo will be extremely hot. Daily driving and keeping the truck reliable it will have to have more airflow. The turbo upgrade will totally liven things up. It seems to be the only plausible option that would be most beneficial at this moment.

I couldn't agree more fellas, thanks and keep the input coming. Although hot, I was thinking the same on the current turbo.

I had him remove the boost fooler b/c the MP8 and smarty are also doing this. IMO two things should not be piggy backed off the MAP sensor.

I am thinking SW7 or 9 w/ default added timing, TM on 2 or 3, RP on 1, MP8 @ 50%, wastegate on, will be a good starting point. Maybe crank the MP8 up for a pull / drag, any thoughts on the wastegate setting w/in the smarty given the mp8 is modifying MAP values?

If it is boost fooling I would turn the wastegate off on the settings. Upping the level will help, but can get hot also. He just needs to keep an eye on it and use his own discretion...

To my knowledge the smarty "on" setting will allow boost to about 45lbs and "off" is only limited to turbo and fuel. Can anyone confirm this? Also I am not exactly sure what the MP8 is doing to MAP values, but I do know it's changing depending on % setting.

i'm curious about this too because i have the smarty, mp8, and a boost fooler. does one thing effect the other? or is it not a big deal?

Jason I would take it off, are you throwing any codes? That was his issue and I started thinking about what was going on under the hood with the stack. Pulled the boost fooler and with the wastegate "off" smarty on 7, mp8 halfway up he is holding a nice 42lbs. More importantly NO codes. IMO the stock turbo doesn't need to be making more than 45lbs even for short bursts.

One more thought for the discussion, with the above settings WOT smoke is a nice dark haze, hardly coal. Either this combo is working really good together or he needs more pump work. In the process of finding out exactly what was done to the CP3.

nope, no codes. however i'm only making about 45lbs, when i feel that i should be making around 50lbs. i thought my combination of turbo and 90hp sticks would make an easy 50lbs. therefor i don't know if i have too many things boost fooling, or some other problem, or maybe what i'm seeing is normal??

45psi is ideal for your turbo, I wouldn't exceed it.
