Newbie ques. on Starter Replacement

How's it goin fellas. Just had a quick question for you all. I'm helpin the Dad change the starter on the our old 94 diesel. The reason why we're changing the starter is b/c I was driving the truck one day and when I went to start the truck all it would do was click and not turn over. Then eventually it would start but I would hear something keep winding up. It sounded like the starter kept on winding up. Well when I went to shut it off it wouldn't!! I mean it kept on running until I put it in first and held the brake to kill the engine. But as I did that the starter fried. So now we have the new starter...but I was wondering if there was anything else we should change..such as the connectors to the starter....Sorry for the long post. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you sure that the starter fried? The problem is sticking contacts. They can be replaced.

You might want to check the fuel shut-off solenoid.
Don't buy the starter at DC. Other places are cheaper.

Hey,smokey is right, check out the starter contacts,9 out of 10 it is the problem, if so then replace with new contacts and plunger kit from www.fostertruck.com ,It is a no brainer to do,and it will save you allot of money, also he sells new starters less than cummins or dodge. goodluck,,, kandgo
