I bought my truck last month and really have enjoyed it. I do have one problem, when I'm cruising at 40 mph, the truck starts wanting to upshift then downshift.... Is this something simple or should I take it to the dealer?

That's about when your torque converter is engaging, then disengaging. "hunting" for where it wants to be. Some people have noticed a change after cleaning off all the grounds for the electrical, as well as some new batteries. There is other tips as well out there too though.

Thanks! I'm still new at this. I graduated from a Dodge 1500 to the 3500. I am learning it's a whole new world.

What year is your 3500, etc. If you can, would be great help for everyone if you fill out your signature. That way we know how many km, what is all done to the truck, what engine is in your truck, etc

There are a bunch of little tricks to stop the trans from hunting....

Clean all batter connections and all ground connections.

I think there is also a trick to isolate the alternator cable with tin foil.

There is also a kit out to fix the 3-4 hunt.....

I have seen line pressure adjustments fix 1-2 hunts, this might work for the 3-4, but that would be last resort.

I've done all of the above, but still had the same problem; just not as often. But I've learned that while cruising under 50 mph I've just pushed that little magic button on the end of the shifter. That way when under 50 mph I'm not using the overdrive, problem solved. I've also noticed, maybe it's my imagination, that with the O/D off the tranny seems to upshift more smoothly and solidly...........

Some folks have improved their shifting problem by adjusting and/or recalibrating the APPS.

If I am not running atleast 50 mph I run with the od off. Without having a muffler, sometimes I run it right up to 60 if I am feeling like it.

Hey Dinner,

Thanks for the tip. Cleaned all the battery connections and that did the trick. Good thing to, when I went to clean them, I found the right side battery connectors were loose. I cleaned them and tightened everything back up. It went through the gears better then when I first bought it. Thanks again! Thanks to everyone else for their input. I feel better there is a site like this one.
