Sticks out a bit and looks a little funny. BUT, when your in a jam, I'd love to have it.

FWIW, I know my truck weighs 7520 and your winch is only rated at 8K so don't get her too stuck.

i rolled accross the scales on top of the blues mountains and weighed 8800 with my 2 kids, the dog and our luggage.

and CallmeD the 8274 does look a bit out of place i really would like to get a xd9000i or m12, but i have had this winch for 6 years on as many trucks and never had a problem pulling anything.

i even pulled my 2nd gen with a 33 12k 5th wheel up a hill on a single line. i don't really agree with the weight rating of the 8274, it definitely will pull more. but it is a sore thumb.......

Its rated at 8000lbs when all the cable is out and only a couple wraps are left on the spool. If you have that much line out,you might as well use a ****** block and double the pull.

My 8274 has pulled some serious loads.

Don't get me wrong guys. My Fullsize BKO had an 8K Warn. I did pull good, a little slow but it NEVER left me or any1 else stranded. I replaced it with a new M12000 and man what a difference. But that is to be expected with a 8 year newer and 4k more pulling power. The 8k was struggling pretty good and needed to be cooled alot.

Of Warns line, the 8274 is NO JOKE. And is there top models for pull/speed Im not arguin that.

I'm just saying, given the truck its hooked to. IF you were stuck in some nice thick mud over your tires it prob. wouldn't get you out. Ya, you could ****** it but I assure you, that cable isn't rated for 16k. If you did need that much pulling power to get free that cable would/will snap. FWIW... Bein there it's not pretty.

But again, Id take that bad boy over no winch anyday.

With a ****** block you also cut the load on each wire by 50%.

thats true if i were really stuck, i would be really stuck. just fyi the line i have on my winch is the synthetic stuff, rated at 18,500, i switched to that stuff two years ago and will never go back, it really kick @$$!! and its safer, no spring back. and at only 200 bucks well worth the safety. i highly recommend it. i was able to buy just reg line cause the motor on the 8274 is not directly connected to the drum, the other planitary units will require the heat wrapped stuff to guard against melting on long pulls.

anyway, i just wanted to know what you guys thought of the lower mount itself, if there is any interest, i was thinking of producing them for around 400 bucks, they would receive the regular bolt pattern for the standard planitary driven winches.

my setup is special, if you look close the winch bolts to a mount that actually unbolts from the lower mount on the truck, i have a rear receiver and a plate on a 20 flatbed that it bolts to as well.

Well I'm the first to admit "that I did not know". In my case there must of bein another reason for the cable snappin then. I assumed it was from over loading it.hmmmmm Good info, thanks

no-no your right, if you overlaod steel cable it WILL snap and can KILL, i have seen it snap first hand and its very scary. good way to ruin a fun wheelin trip....

so does it put the cable under double the load when using a ****** block or cut it in half??

no, just the pulling points, you have double the load but you have two cables to distribute the load on. your tree strap and winch mount bear the doubled or even tripled load though, so you need to make sure that they can handle it. i have run triple lines before to pull a stump up.

Your 8000 lb winch is only putting 8000 lb of tension on your cable. If you put one ****** block at the tree and run the cable back to the truck you are pulling 16000 lbs. If you put another ****** block at the truck and run the cable trough that ****** block back to the first one or the tree you are pulling 24000 lbs, but there is still only 8000 lbs tension on the cable.

thank you for clarifying, i must not have been clear when i said that earlier.
