Unhappy New VP-44 but still problems....

Ok
Been battling injector pump, and lift pump problems since I got this truck two years ago. I replaced the stock Lift pump for the unit that goes in the tank as replaced through Chrysler...this thing is a flat out POS. Anways desided that adding a external fuel pump with its own line would be a smart idea. This was a old used Holley blue pump. Over the coarse of a 16 months or so, I kept getting the code Injection pump timing failure, while flat pedal'n sometimes. I tow a race car... too and from the race track, but it started to get worse. i had intially ran a Smarty Box on #3 setting. I began to notice if a run it hard it would start try to die, so I figured it was just injector pump die'n a slow death. So Yesterday, I picked up a new vp-44 and install it, before I started it up, I put the stock software back in and cleared the trouble codes, fired up, but didnt sound right. I test drive it, found that WOT there is problems, so I started checking stuff yesterday and today. I noticed that when i slowed down it would die. I didnt have a very good way to check fuel pressure, but figured it should be ok given both the stock replacement pump, and Blue pump working togather. I was wrong...Took it to local garage he threw a fuel gauge on it, and we took it for a drive, fuel pressure would be 10lbs idleing, but under throttle it would drop down, and when you stopped suddently it would drop, like fuel pump is loosing prime. you can hear the pump loose prime, kinda sounds hollow, then it gets prime I guess, then its starts to pump and pickup the fuel. (sounds deeper). Has anyone run into this? I made my own Draw straw setup, with its own line. So now ay its loosing prime with 1/2 tank of fuel. I ran the new line all the way up to the Fuel block (were the orignal lift pump mounted) now its just a block of aluminum that connects the two banjo lines the intially connected to the stock lift pump, anways I went under it and tapped a NPT and barbed fitting, and ran my fuel line to this point. The fuel pump has its own filter, in this case, the stock fuel filter is bypassed. I also noticed that the fuel pump is leaking fuel around the bottom of the pump plate. I have EGT, and Boost gauges, but no fuel pressure gauge. So I picked the phone up and ordered some more parts I ordered a New Holley fuel pump, its the HP version that is rated at 150 GPH, this pump is a gear rotor version, instead of the old typical vain pump that is in the blue pumps. Its also internal regulated at 16psi, do I need to install the regulator? I didnt on the blue pump. I figured that the extra pressure would be good, and shouldnt cuase any problems like when used with a carb (pushes threw needle and seat at much over 9 psi). So do I need to regulate this pump? at what pressure? I also ordered up a Earls fuel filter that is 85 micron stainless mesh. I figured now would be a good time to add the fuel pressure gauge to monitor things. I was just going to drill and tape the block again to install the pressure gauge is this ok? Pretty sure it will be 1/8 npt. Also Is there a chance that I damaged this VP-44 already? no codes are present unless the Smarty software is installed then code 602. I had this stuff Over Nighted from Summit so I can install it this weekend. here is some links to what i got....Any advice would be nice.

one analysis at a time.
1. I would begin w/making certain I had fuel psi of 10-20 and no fuel line leaks or air entering the line.
2. If you don't have another filter in place besides the 85mic I would make sure to get one, if not keep the factory filter as I believe it filters to 10mic
and install your 85mic pre-holley pump.
3. Bump the starter to engauge the fuel pumps and purge any air from the system. At this point, you should see psi on your fuel gauge. Your holley pump should run for a few seconds. Once all the air is out of the lines, make sure all fittings are tight. Your should be able to start it.
4. If not, you're still probably getting air in the system.
5. On the holley pump remove the four bolts on the bottom and carefully remove the mesh screen. You won't need this as long as you have the fuel pre-filtered.

The CTD only needs fuel, air(not in the fuel line) and compression to run. Hope this helps.

Put clear tubing in place of the fuel line at the vp44. This will show any air in the line.
