new turbo....phooey

i have a 12 valve97 and have a #11 fuel plate, afe air filter.i just put on an afe exhaust manifole and a s300 turbo with the 4 inch exhaust.i am disapointed.no low end power compared to the stock turbo.only boost when you either wail on ot or climb a hill. i am thinking of taking out the turbo and putting back the stock one.i will keep th 4 inch exhaust however.should i try a adjustable waste gate for a little milage i get 24 highway, imperial gallon with the old turbo.and a 3.5 inch home made exhaust.

What size S300? Is it the S300G, or is it a larger variant?

When I installed my B-1 on my 97, I had stock injectors, a #11 plate, HTT manifold and four inch exhaust. It took some getting used to, but had way more power than with the stocker. I have since added injectors and a hotter plate, and haven't looked back. My truck lately has been averaging 19 mpg running alot of interstate at 70 mph.

My S300G works like a champ, but you may have a larger version. What size is it?

have you tried cranking the afc position and the star wheel to get some low end fueling to light the turbo? maybe a boost elbow as well?
You dont want piles of smoke but youll need a little fuel to get things hot and spin the turbo up. Id invest in a gov spring kit at a minimum.

I'll bet he's be a bit disapointed in the low end responce? I can honestly say I was a bit but I also had egts problems (Way to hot) Do some tuning and you will love it.I also bet he has a 14cm exhaust hausing which means a bit of lag or worse if not tuned right?? The power band does move a bit from all bottom end to some of both.......

My 14cm2 housing doesnt have any noticeable lag as compared to the 12 on my HX35. Depends on tuning and what size the turbo is, but the originator has not reposted.

I agree about the tuning. With any changes made to air or fuel, the pump more than likely should be adjusted. Play with the smoke screw, star wheel, plate and housing.
I love my S300 62/14 in my twin set. EGT's are better, better mileage, and lower boost (I was trying to lower the drive pressure). Spools almost as good as the HX-35/12 I replaced, but I had to tweak the pump to make it so. Good luck.

What size turbo was it that you installed? I have the same drivetrain setup as you and am doing better now mpg wise with the stage 2 injectors, 100 plate and B-1 turbo than I was with just the 11 plate, stock injectors, BHAF and 4 inch exhaust. The biggest thing now is the extra consistency in mpg. It was with 1-2 mpg before, now it's almost the same mpg every tankful, within .4 mpg, and it's gone up with the power additions.

Tune it to fit the turbo, unless it's a 66mm charger, it should help you out. That's my experiences anyways.

You need tuning...... and injectors. Slapping parts on a 12v does not always equal more power.
