Hey guy's as bad as I hate to admit this, as a Capt. on a fire dept for 23 yrs, and construction work prior, I don't know diddly about truck and car repairs. My question is this, my new 07 3500 dually, diesel, auto, was parked in the driveway, and my wife informs me there's a oil leak under it. This leak started out about 4-5" in diameter on the ground and in about 24 hrs. of non use, a little more than doubled in size. I crawled under the truck, and it looks to me, to barely be dripping, and I mean I had to put my finger on the spot to determine if it was leaking or not, around what I'm guessing is a inspection plate on the front of my transmission?? There is a small plate held on by two bolts, and it looked to be seeping near or from that. My reason for posting is this, I have a appointment Thurs. a.m. with a Dodge dealer for a repair, or examination, should I be worried about this in getting fixed? I have a feeling , they'll want to apply some liquid gasket, and reapply, which might be the correct procedure, I don't know. I'm just hoping it's nothing to be to overly concerned with, but if there's a red flag I should be on the look out for, I'm hoping someone here will steer me in the right direction![redface] Thanks!!

It is very possible it is from the vent tube from the valve cover. It is normal to have some dripping from it. It is located on the left rear side of the block near the tranny. My truck will seap some oily residue on the tranny from the vent tube also. This is normal. Nothing to be worried about.

I failed to mention, the location of the spot is about just behind the front wheel, but almost dead center of underneath truck. Thanks Again!

If it is tranny oil, it is possible to have a bad seal in the front of the transmission. Either way it sounds like gasket maker won't do the trick. If it was blowby, a 4" puddle would be downright scary. My guess is if it is coming from the inspection plate and is tranny fluid it would be a front seal or possibly a porous case? Please post what the dealer finds! Good luck!

Hi, I'm a new Dodge owner, I bought my '07 Mega Cab 2500 with the 5.9 CTD w/auto about 2 months ago after a long history with Ford. Have you learned anything about this leak? I just found the same thing with my truck. I haven't driven it for a few day's now and the spot is about 8" from the same location. It looks to be traveling from up further on the block.

I'm going to schedule mine in to be looked at, but anything you have found out I would appreciate knowing what it is/was.

Thanks!

Blow-by is oil venting from the crankcase breather....

the water from your AC is simply water... the process by which the air is cooled creates condensation... I could go into more detail but it'd be pretty boring.

is the blow by right behind the fuel filter drain hose?

It's under warrany, take it to the dealer. If you don't know anything about repairing the truck, what difference does it make how it gets fixed? And if someone doesn' know the difference between water and oil....buy a bicycle.hahahahahahaha
