New Truck 98.5/Questions and opinions please!

Well my 92 just doesn't have enough seating for my family so I found a 98.5 24 valve, quadcab, 4x4, 5 speed, 206k mi, in EXCELLENT condition for $9200. I couldn't be more happy with the truck. Its great in every way . . . except of course its bone stock! Following suit of just about everyone here I'll be pumping it up.

A little background. I used to have a 97 V10 standard cab. Loved the truck but wanted the extra cab and diesel. Got the 92 in my sig. Loved it but now need more space for family and I want the mileage of the stick. The Quadcab will supply everything that the 92 didn't and more. (I really wanted a 12 valve but you take what you can get sometimes)

I tow my Rockcrawler mostly with the truck. I also like to have fun with it and I drive it hard. Beating up on ricers is always fun too. So towing is key but I want as much available power as reliably possible and to have the best mileage possible on long trips.

My currently plan is a controller of some sort, exhaust and a lift pump or lift pump helper.

Some questions I could really use help with:

Generally, is there anything that I need to look out for on a 98.5 in particular?

My fuel pump was replaced at 90k by Dodge under warranty. That is a VP44 correct? It will have the same VP44 problems I keep reading about right?

It does need to have the KDP taken care of correct?

I'm planning on buying the Edge Juice with Attitude. Is there any other controller I should consider with my above mentioned needs in mind?

Lastly, it doesn't always idle smoothly. It seems to be missing a cylinder or two sometimes and then not at others. the problem is ONLY at idle. It runs perfectly while driving. Could this be a sign of injector pump issues?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Chass

It does smell of raw fuel under the hood. The valve cover is pretty dirty and it looks like there may be a fuel leak. I'll put a wrench on all of the injector lines.

Thanks for the tip.

i would losing all of them up on the feeder tubes going into the head. and pull the line back a lil bit and wipe it clean..plus you could see if there is any crud on them...tighten them all back..not to tight thou. do the same for the banjo bolts as well...or you could try cleaning all of the off where there is a nut of bolthead with some staring fuild or carb cleaner anything that dries fast and then start the truck and look for the leak...if it does leak then try driving it a bit...the the fuel moving good.. have you replaced the fuel filter?

Haven't replaced the filter yet. I'll do that tonight if I get a chance. Oh ya, no codes at all. It really runs perfect except the occasional rough idle.

Thanks!
