New stuff... and a question

alright so i bought the basics...

1) 5" turbo back magnaflow exhaust
2) AFE Stage 2 intake
3) Smarty programmer on level 3

my question is can i run the smarty on level 4 without hurting anything and what should i do to the tranny to make it stronger other than the obvious being gears... also... anybody have any idea what it'll run in the 1/4?

Probably like 4 or 5 grand but I say do it right the first time and get more tranny than you need

Well, you can buy the parts and do it yourself or pay someone to do it, or yank your tranny, send it to your tranny guy of choice (Goerend, DTT, ATS, Suncoast, HTS, NADP, etc.) and they'll send it back built and ready to bolt in. I doubt there's much difference in cost.

If you don't have gauges I would go get them before I would do any drag racing.

i'm sure you dont need injectors and a turbo or a lift pump just to run level 4. i'm running the 180hp tune on my truck. rail pressure, fuel pressure, boost are all okay. Never to low or to high. I would upgrade the tranny though. the stock converters are kinda crappy.

I doubt you can run the 180 hp tune with a stock lift pump and be perfectly okay. I've noticed with any chip set on a mid to upper power level (60+) the stock lift pump just can't keep up. Think about this; most STOCK trucks can pull the fuel pressure down to 1 or so with no mods. Add a few (or just one) power adders and you need a new lift pump to keep the fuel flow volume where it needs to be. That's just my opinion though. Mine failed prematurely supposedly because of the added strain of trying to pump too much fuel. Or so the dealer says.....

To run level 4, I say that you can do it on a stock tranny; just be conservative with your right foot. If you are one to nail the throttle everywhere, a built tranny is definately recommended. What the heck; I'd buy one anyways just so I could play. I'd also check into a lift pump just for the added security.

Its keeping up. Its not draining the rail, fuel pressure is never below 7, and Its still smopking like crazy. For these guys telling a guy to buy like 5000 dollars in parts to run a level higher, is lame. You dont need that many parts, to run that tune. Think about that.

I must be crazy. When I see a bunch of black smoke, tire smoke or THINK of running WOT for a 1/4 mile all I can think off is wasted diesel.

My bone stock '03 will get out of it's own way pretty easy. It has never even thought of not towing whatever I've hooked up to.

My whole goal is to get my average above 20.

Different strokes for different folks....
