New Power steering pump finally in!!
After extensive research on the search section, and having the local NAPA dealer remove the fitting(for free) from the shaft end of the old OEM pump and onto the reman. pump, I finally got 'er in. I flushed the entire system and after I installed a Magnefine (3/8", and cost was $22.00) filter at the return line and replaced the return line hose. The steering is now so ever smooth and best of all, that annoying purr that I have been writing about for a year is finally gone!! While the R&R is fresh in my head, I'll be glad to answer any questions you all may have if you are in need of replacing yours. You will need 2 qts. of PS fluid to flush and re-fill. Total time about 6 hours, and that is taking your sweet old time.

Those Magnefines are great little gadgets. I use them on all the power steering units and my wife's transmisison has one slpiced into the trans cooler line as well. Pump will probably last forever that way as long as you replace the fluid and filter every 5 years or so.
