I painted the top and lower ugly gray pieces on my front bumper today. I used the Plastic fusion on the top and the bumper coating on the bottom. I ran out of the fusion cause i followed the directions and used an amonia based cleaner (Windex) to clean the surface, only to turn around and clean all the paint off cause the plastic still had oil or wax on it . USE LACOUR THINNER to clean your plastic!!! After cleaning i picked up some krylon bumper coating cause they had no more fusion.... They look good now and im happy with the results. Heres some pics.

Krylon Fusion.

I couldn't find it at Home Depot, nor any Krylon products for that matter.

Heard tell that Walmart carries it,
but I avoid Walmart like the plague you're likely to catch there .

I need to do my air dam that I transplanted to the new bumper.

I found the Krylon Plastic fusion at Advanced Auto parts, Autozone, I think wal-mart too. Autozone didnt have black though, had every other color. I checked twice within two months too.

That front end looks great! I'd like to do something with mine. Should I repaint the gray to black, or should I repaint the air dam black, or both? What do you guys think?

Id paint the gray piece black and see how it looks. I dont know if id paint that airdam cause it looks like it has a nice paint job on it. Thats a good looking truck, i think painting the gray part black will set it off.

That looks very nice. I was planning to paint mine this summer. You say use Laquer thinner to clean before painting but is that all you did before painting? No other prep work (other than removing)? I hope it will last i was afraid all it would do is flake off after 1 winter. Looks sweet.

That Krylon Fusion is made specifically for plastic.

It bonds itself into the plastic, without any prep work other than making sure the surface is nice and clean.

Yep, no prep work except cleaning off the grime. I hope it lasts, it says "1 week before chip resistant", so it must be some good stuff, for them to acually mention that.
It was pretty easy to do, hardest part was cleaning it, CLEAN IT WELL. Just use plenty of lacour thinner and elbow grease with a rag. To tell you the truth, if it started chipping in a year or so, i would just keep painting it cause its realy easy.

Just so you guys know, Lacquer Thinner WILL melt the plastic and is NOT recommended to clean plastic parts. Hot soapy water, and a prep solvent or wax and grease remover is all you should ever need!

Hey DZL power, you've got to keep me up to date on how it holds up. I am planning on repainting my dash black, and painting the trim white. I just don't want the UV rays to kill my paint!
