New to this from Minnesota

Hi this is all new to me. I got your web site from a guy in our fireworks club. I'm from Cannon Falls Minnesota. Just south of twin cities. I ordered my truck back March of 2004. Picked it in May and been driving it every day scene. I have a 104000 right now. No mods. Having a little problem with winter starts after it sets for over 8 hrs in 30 degrees or less. It starts hard then after that it will start good the rest of the day. And any time above 30 degrees. Other than that the truck has been trouble free. Other than a water pump and u-joints.

Welcome to the DTR!

Do you plug the truck in when it's 30* or below?

Do you use any time of winter additive at these temps?

No I do not plug my truck in at all my work has a big parking lot with no plugs anywhere and I work a lot of overtime. It can sit out in the lot for 12 to 16 hrs at one time. I also run stanadyne scene the day I picked it up.
Brought to the dealer last winter so they could see it before the warranty was up. They checked it and came up with plugged injectors and charged me 300.00 to clean them it did help at all. I personally think its a computer programing thing. I asked them if they could re flash it. I was told he can be re flashing everything that comes in.
The truck will turn over just great I run a 5w-30 synthetic amsoil in it. It will feel like going to start the when you let off the key it dies. If you just grind through for a second get it past that it will run just fine and start good the rest of the day. Til it sits again for a while. I just hate grinding the starter like that.

Am I understanding you correctly...

The dealer refused to update the ECM in your truck?

How far is your commute? Maybe you need a 20w oil.

I'm assuming you have some good batteries and your grid heater is functioning properly...

Hi I’m back it was a busy Saturday.

Yes the dealer refused to update the ECM.

I drive 23 miles one way to work every day. I have a radiator cover or a bra, I bought from Dodge that helps bring it up to operating temps.
I run two interstate battiers with 1000 cca a piece

I was talking to a guy yesterday he said his ford would do the something a few years ago. He changed out the temperature sensor. He was saying a diesel will hold the heat for a while. That why it has to set for so long before it will act up.

I think I’m going to give that a try and wait for the cold to set in. It has to be something simple like that.

If you or anyone else has any other suggestion. Let me know

I would take it to another dealer then...

Maybe you should start a new thread in the 3rd gen Engine and Drivetrain forum so you get some more opinions and views.
