Question New Member & New Truck

HOWDY ALL!!
AWESOME SITE!!
I am a new member with a newly aquired 92(10/91 build date) w250(4x4), club cab, limited slip, single rear wheel, auto w/ o.d.,and of course the 5.9 cummins. the truck 184000 miles on it.

I need help with 2 problems:

1) truck idles rough in gear but not in park or neutral.
I have already checked for loose or broken mounts, and other worn parts,
Truck does not blow any white, black, or blue smoke on accel or decel.
The idle is so bad in gear it is vibrating things loose.
Any ideas??

2)Truck has a completely worn out 40/20/40 front seat.
can I realistically(?) swap in a seat out of a newer(94+) truck?
Qoutes to rebuild the current seat are outrageous.

THANKS, C

Not sure about #1 ive never messed with an auto but ive got a set of 95 seats in my truck. All you really need to do is add spacers under the seats to level every thing out and drill new holes. Man I wish mine was a club cab.

Welcome to DTR!

1--your idle is likely set too low. Give it a little pedal in D to see if it clears up. idle speed should be about 800 in D with the AC on, I think--auto guys, help me out here.

2--I'm not sure there ever was a 40-20-40 in a 1st gen, so maybe somebody already upgraded and you just need a 'new' upgrade the 40-20-40 from the 2nd gens has been done before and looks good. I plan on the swap myself.

That sounds about like 600 RPM.

Welcome to DTR, make yerself at home!

as for number one, Im with G1625S on that one, U must be ideling too low to begin with, 800 sounds right to me.

and number 2, I didnt know a 1st Gen was available with a 40/20/40 either.
I have a nice bench in the barn that needs to be refurbished, but im still thinking a nice slate grey, 6way power, and heated leather seats need to be installed in mine from a perticular green 01 dually I know of!

THANKS FELLAS FOR THE WARM WELCOME!!
I forgot to mention in my post that the roughness goes away a little when you give her a little fuel, sorry.
I thought the idle might be low, but since this is my first cummins i didn't know. I'll check it out.

The guy I bought it from was the 2nd owner. He gave me all the records for the truck. he swears it the original seat and original inj. pump. whatever.

I measured a power,leather,3split seat(40/20/40??) out of a 99 club cab(proper name for that yr??) and it's about 3.75" wider and a whole lot taller probably 10"s. any one crammed one of these into a old body style?

Dodge offered a 40/20/40 starting in 68, most the center seat lifted up for a storage area, as well as back folding down. I have one if i ever get time to recover it.

Welcome to our humble site. I hope you like the snow. I agree that the idle would be my first guess.
As for second gen seats........I love them. My rig had them installed by a previous owner. I will probably remount them later because the spacers are a little too tall for me and my friends. There is a lot of fore and aft adjustment in those seats but the floor pan is a lot different between the two trucks. The back inside mounts on the second gen were lower than the first gens by a couple inches. The best mounting that I have seen pictures of was here in this forum. The frame was cut and channeled to fit the first gen floor. You may find the pictures by doing a search.

Welcome. This is a great site for CTD trucks. I have some sort of seat (aftermarket?) in mine installed by the original owner. I have pict in my gallery. I guess they are still made.

These trucks like the idle up a tad anyway, better for oil pressure, steering, etc. Just be mindful of the tranny fighting you while brakeing if you get a little too high with idle. These don't come with the best brakes anyway.

My idle, according to Issopro, says about 750-800 in "D" with no A/C. Seems to be fine to me that way. Good luck.

Your idle may be low but I would also change your fuel filter. If it is starting to get plugged a bit low fuel pressure at idle could be a problem.

You're right, fuel filter change is a good idea, especially with the "cleaning" properties of our new fuel. By the way, my idle rpm in "N" is exactly 800.
