I just stumbled across this site a few days ago. All I can say is WOW what a ton of info.
I bought my W250 in July 91 with 7 miles on it. Driving it off the lot I knew right away this was no ordinary truck.
5 speed Getrag 4:10 gears
At 201,000 miles a bolt backed out of the engine and fell between the two timing gears as I was coming up I-95 under full power. Stereo blasting I heard the camshaft bust in two as the pistons hit the heads. The guys at Cummins were eying my wreck like a bunch of vultures, but $6,000 later we were back on the road. Next a bolt came loose in the rear of the Getrag spilling all the oil, rebuild time again, that was tough nobody for mile around even knew what a Getrag was. Found a guy in NC who owned a NAPA store that could do it. Again the Getrag went down when a AAA driver towed my truck with the transfer case in gear. The smoke was pouring off the tranny from burnning oil, this time I had to ship it to Texas. This time they had to pay. My shifter fell off one day due to metal fatige had the welded, the clutch petal mount fractured from poor design, my truck has a healthy appetite for voltage regulators, speedo stopped working several years ago at 347,000 miles, now the clutches in my posi-traction unit are sticking. But I love my truck. I plan to fix everything in the near future, and I think thisforum is going to be a big help.
