New to me 98 12v quad

Hi all. I just picked up a 98 12 valve Quad Cab 4x4 w/th 5 speed and 4.10's. It's everything I've ever wanted, but I have some questions. The truck has 236k on the ticker and runs great.

My question is, should I run dino or syn on an engine with this many miles? I live in Utah, so which weight would be the best option regards for oil? Since it's a 98, do I still need to worry about the KDP?
I only want to do minor mods, IE intake, exhaust and maybe a #11 plate. With adding a plate to a stock engine with so many miles, will this hurt reliability? \
Also..anyone near have a Dana 80 with 3.55's and want an axle with 4.10's?

Thanks everyone!

I put twins, 215 pump,100 plate 4000gsk and 370 injectors on a 250,000 motor. It seems to like it. I'd like to have a 12v auto in a qc sb but I'm probably just going to p-pump a 24v.

It's has a few minor scratches and dents like you'd expect a 9 year old truck with 236k miles to have. But the interior is cherry. I think it originally had leather as the rear set is leather, but the front seat is not and looks almost brand new. They must have had it recovered. Carfax reports 1 owner.

congrats on the truck. Tax's are a killer, 8.6% tax here, I had to pay $731 just for sales tax, minus tabs and transfer fees.. I think it's funny they can tax vehicles over and over no matter how many times it's sold. They should only collect tax the first 2 times a vehicle is sold or somthing like that.

4.10's aren't so bad, i thought they'd be worse on the freeway, but rpms aren't bad at all, haven't had a chance to tow yet (KDP kit arrives thursday :-D), but i'm sure there great for it.

Any advice on oil to run to extend the life? I was thinking Valvoline 15w40. I would run synthetic if the consensus was good about it in an older engine..

Apparently I need an exhaust to pass safety inspection, any recomendations for a 4inch turbo back setup?

Congrats on the sweet truck. I have one that is almost identacle. Mine has the 3.55 gears though. I bought mine stock, it is not anymore. I started bombing with a 10 plate 4k gsk and bumped timing. My clutch hated it, as well as my head gasket. I think the head gasket failure was a result of the timing causing higher cylinder pressures. It is all put together now and runs freakin sweet. coolest truck ever. I recently put in a magnaflow stainless 4" system, I really like it. Not too loud but sounds great. I think that just an 11 plate with the boost elbow and some gauges would be a pretty reliable setup. I also live in utah and use the standard delo diesel oil. As long as i have my truck plugged in it starts right away. Any way good luck and happy bombing.

Were you driving it hard to blow the headgasket? I'm going to do my timing too and I've got a #10 w/ 3kgsk. I don't wanna blow my headgasket though. Haven't heard of too many people blowing it with just those mods.

Welcome to the land without cursed electonics! You need to make sure the KDP is tabbed and while your there you can bump the timing some to improve the wonderful mileage our 4.10s provide us. There is also option two: look like grandpa and go 55 but wheres the fun in that when you can just increase timing and turn her loose
